One person found this helpful. I used this book for my English class and it did have some very helpful tips for writing papers. Ended up getting an A in the class, but this book helped me out more than my professor.

His latest book is Crafting Truth: Short Studies in Creative Nonfiction, also from the same publisher. Ballenger lives with his wife and two daughters in Boise, Idaho.

This book has sat on my teaching essentials bookshelf next to the wonderful Birkenstein-Graff text They Say, I Say for years, and it isn't going anywhere-except when I'm carrying it back and forth from school.

Includes bibliographical references and index. Students are encouraged to find ways to bring their writing to life, even though they are writing with "facts.

Other readers will always be interested in your opinion of the books you've read. Whether you've loved the book or not, if you give your honest and detailed thoughts then people will find new books that are right for them. 1. Human Trafficking: Interdisciplinary Perspectives.

The success of research writing depends on the same thing that makes other writing successful: the writer's interest in what s/he's writing about. This book aims to challenge the assumption that a formal research paper has to be dry and uninteresting to read by helping writers see how integrally the research process and the writing process are bound. KEY TOPICS: This accessible, motivational guide to planning, researching, writing, and documenting a research paper is organized into an easy-to-follow, unique five week program that helps writers focus their work and overcome procrastination. A thorough review of MLA and APA documentation formats as well as documenting electronic resources makes this book a must have. Also includes integrated Internet information. For anyone who needs a different approach to writing a research paper.

  • I used this book for my English class and it did have some very helpful tips for writing papers. Ended up getting an A in the class, but this book helped me out more than my professor.

  • This book is extremely helpful for writing a research paper. It gives you tips on how to brainstorm, research, and write the paper. I wish I had been told to read this earlier in my college career! Pretty useful for when you're stuck on your research paper, or just to make you a better writer overall.

  • Didn’t come in great condition and has some writing and underlining in it. But it serves its purpose and it was a cheaper alternative to purchasing the book through my school.

  • Book as described, fast shipping

  • Forget all the reviews beneath that say this book isn't for college students. These stodgy English Professor types are exactly the audience who are guarenteed to hate a book that promotes and teaches, passion, curiousity, and most important, voice in student research papers. For the rest of us the Curious Researcher is a breath of fresh air. Bruce Ballenger comes at us from a writers, not a teachers point of view. He illustrates how to transform what is traditionally known in the trade as a "terminal paper" into an exploration, brimming with life, fact and literary panache.
He also manages to squeeze in all the fundamental research skills and gives teachers exercizes on how to teach them. Any teacher who sees this book as a "huge waste of time," (see review below) might want to take their cue from UCLA basketball coach John Wooden. "No one is too old to learn the fundamentals." Ballenger brilliantly teaches the fundamentals of teaching voice in non-fiction writing and demonstrates his lessons on each page throught the example of his own writing. This is the Best Book on Research Writing for College or High School ever written. Bravo Bruce!

  • Ugh, I think the book is magnificent, but the tall nature of the orientation just does not bode well with my monitor. It's really hard to read on my computer screen.

  • This is one of the best books I've found for teaching research paper skills. I'm probably going to use it again in the future.

  • This book is so helpful with research essays and its guides you so well. Definitely will use it in grad school and for work. Very straight forward and direct. Easy to understand and it sets up a easy to follow five week plan for writing a research paper. I rented the book but after using it for my class, I will buy my own copy for the future.
