  • Anything written by the late Galen Rowell is worth reading, and this is no exception. Beyond the beautiful photos, there's the story behind them, with a finely balanced analysis of the Tibet vs. China situation. Most discussions of the issue lean heavily toward one side or the other, and Rowell's account allots credit and blame on both sides.

  • Great book by an outstanding photographer who, it turns out, also seems to be a pretty expert historian when it comes to Tibet. The book condition was a bit below average, however, as the front cover binding is getting ready to give up the ghost!
