Shimon bar Yochai, also known by his acronym Rashbi, was a 2nd-century tannaitic sage in ancient Judea, said to be active after the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE. He was one of the most eminent disciples of Rabbi Akiva, and attributed by many Orthodox Jews with the authorship of the Zohar, the chief work of Kabbalah

But the wise shall understand that their elevation comes from the Creator, the Tree of Life. And they who are righteous shall shine like the brightness of the firmament" (Daniel 12:3) thanks to the book of Rabbi Shimon, which is The Book of Zohar, from the supernal force that brings all back to the Creator.

The Zohar is a book of great mystical power and wisdom. Universally recognized as the definitive work on the Kabbalah, and much more. The Zohar is a wellspring of spiritual energy, a fountainhead of metaphysical power that not only reveals and explains, but literally brings blessing, protection, and well-being into the lives of all those who read or peruse its sacred texts. Unlike other books, The Zohar is written in a kind of code, through which metaphors, parables, and cryptic language at first conceal but ultimately reveal the forces of creation. As electrical current is concealed in wire and cable before disclosing itself as an illuminated light bulb, the spiritual Light of the Creator is wrapped in allegory and symbolism throughout the Aramic text of the Zohar. It's primary purpose is not only to help us acquire wisdom, but to draw Light from the Upper Worlds and to bring sanctification into our lives.
  • New to Zohar and looking forward to learning more. Beautiful book.

  • This is one of the 22 volumes (volumes 23 is the index) of the Zohar, (The Book of Splendor). It deals with a brand of Judaism often referred to as "Kabbalah" or "Esoteric". It is not an easy read, but offers many insightful and thought-provoking ideas on the text it evaluates. Written is short bursts (sectional paragraphs), it carries on through conversations of Rabbis and Sages as they deliberate on different versions and observation of the texts.

The Zohar is work to read and the reader must be willing to mine its depths without quitting early. Helpful guides and definitions fill the front of each volume. The Kabbalists believe that by "scanning" the Aramaic writing, spiritual depth and understanding can be gained, even to the point where they say that the mere presence of the Zohar in your home can bring blessings. While that part is up to you to determine, I can tell you that the Zohar has sent me on many a mission, exploring new depths I have never even imagined. I would recommend buying the first couple of volumes used and see how it sets for you.
