This book has some real character to it. Its topics and generalities are sometimes predictable. although the book was written in an olde english sort of manner, its delivery is stellar. One should expect nothing short of stunning insight, being you provide the patience and correctly aligned will.

Liber aleph CXI. The book of wisdom or folly

Liber aleph CXI. The book of wisdom or folly. Præmonstrance of A∴A∴, Equinox III (1). Liber Aleph, The Book of Wisdom or Folly was intended to express the heart of my doctrine in the most deep and delicate dimensions. is the most tense and intense book that I have ever composed. The thought is so concentrated and, if I may use the word, nervous, that both to write then, and to read now, involved and involves an almost intolerable strain.

Liber Aleph vel CXI: The Book of Wisdom or Folly is the title of The Equinox, volume III, number VI, by Aleister Crowley. The book is written in the form of an epistle to his magical son, Charles Stansfeld Jones, Frater Achad, whom Crowley later doubted as being his true magical son, asserting that Achad had in fact gone insane, citing as evidence Achad's "upending the tree of life" in his . or The Bride's Reception, the first of Achad's major qabalistic works.

An incredibly concise and terse book, organized by chapters spanning no longer than a single page. Written as a series of letters from Crowley to his 'magical son' and supposed heir, Frater Achad, which is just as useful to anyone who considers themselves heirs of the tradition of Thelema. Also, there are many chapters explicitly pertinent to work with OTO degrees if you have eyes to see. Identifier.

Book by Crowley, Aleister
  • This is one of my favorite books. It's a series of aphorisms that build on each other, conceptually written as if to Aleister Crowley's "magickal child," in the style of books fathers used to write for their children.

It's one of Crowley's best, in my opinion. Though it's far from his most accessible work, its format of titled aphorisms typically less than one page makes it somewhat easier to digest. You may find yourself reading a single chapter a few times, or you may simply move on and come back to it later.

It helps if you're initiated into his metaphysical system, but I think a fair portion of it works fine with a decent understanding of literary symbolism.

  • What folly, not to attain to a having of the wisdom available herein !

  • thelemic text

  • Great kernels of wisdom

  • I believe that this is one of the greatest books of A.C. he gathers in it all the spiritual knowledge off a lifetime in some great advices. The language is formal, i really like that, sometimes it could be difficult to read, especially for people that English is not their first language, but it really worth's it. Also i think that this book is the perfect guide for people that have choose that lifestyle. For me the people who think that this book is not good they simply cannot understand it in deep....

  • Crowley's Book of Wisdom and Folly must certainly be taken with pinches of salt here and there, and the reader must be prepared to skip parts altogether as nonsense. The reader must also be male - women are likely to throw the book away after the first page.
That said, The Book must be read for some of the magnificent insights, found elsewhere in Crowley's writings, but not in 'standard' books of 'philosophy'... this is not a philosophical work; neither is it Satanic, or any other label people have given it.
It is impossible to write a brief review of The Book, partly because of its 'heterogeneous' composition, lacking any central theme- seen from the point of view of a non-gnostic. For the general reader interested in finding - there is no other word for it but 'magnificent'- magnificent insights into ... into? This reviewer cannot even say insights into what.
The tone of authority here will be appreciated by some and criticized by others.
This reviewer is being as rambling as Crowley is in The Book- but if one cares to look through the rambling, the insights- indeed, truths- have the power to transform people's attitudes to philosophy, even people's philosophies.
Read The Book if you will to do so. Those readers who are struck by the first declaration of 'The Law' - and possibly only those readers- must read The Book: Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
