Edgar Cayce, unwitting seer and clairvoyant, touched millions of lives with his innate spiritual wisdom and his uncanny healing visions. Born in 1877 in Hopkinsvile, Kentucky, Edgar Cayce had a seventh-grade education, yet was able to repeat complex and technical medical jargon when under a trance. In this state, he was said to heal many of the people who came seeking his counsel with his recommendations for medical treatment. Cayce soon began to talk about spiritual notions such as Atlantis, reincarnation, dreams, astrology, and more.

Discusses Cayce's writings on ESP, describes what it is like to have psychic powers, and tells how to develop these powers
  • For me the single biggest takeaway from this book was a much better understanding of the role and function of the subconscious. I found his explanations of how the subconscious effects our consciousness and vice versa to be particularly fascinating. In particular, the explanation of how our subconscious mind looks for patterns and correspondences as a way to help us interpret things in our life was most useful. I now find myself FAR less likely to chalk up "random" coincidences as just "coincidences". Now I am much more aware of the possibility that these "random" events are not random at all but are my own subconscious mind trying to bring something to my attention. There are many examples of this given in the book. As one personal example, while reading this book from my home on the west coast I was also working on a blog article about a major event in New York City. No longer had I written the words New York City when my cell phone rang with a recorded message from a telemarkter using a New York phone number. A few days later I was writing about Connecticut when my phone rang with a telemarketer call from the state of Connecticut. While I would normally have passed these off as "odd coincidences" I now find myself seeing this as a sign that I may be on the right track or that I should further explore those topics. This led to some new insights into my subject matter because I acted on the prompts I was given. Powerful if you open up to the possibility that we are constantly being fed clues about what we should be doing.

  • Well I cannot compare this to any other psychic book, so I will only give you my opinion.

If you can get anything helpful out of a book, I think it is worth it. I honeslty was expecting some excersizes that would help me develop a better understanding of what happens to me from time to time. This was more of a book to help you understand the benefits and possible psychic awakenings from meditation and dreams.
I found it very interesting and helpful in those ways.

Overall this was a good first read.

  • This is a good intro into the psychic world, but why is it called an Edgar Cayce Guide? There really isn't that much on Edgar Cayce's technique's, advice, or view on things. Definitely a misnomer. There's a lot of content on other examples of psychic testing and abilities from other sources, but it's almost a ploy putting Cayce in there because he's kind of just mentioned among these other sources. Almost all of the book is spent giving evidence on proving that psychic ability is possible and very little practical techniques until close to the very end.

If you want to read about Edgar Cayce and his advice on psychic abilities, read a different book. You'll be dissapointed if you buy this thinking that it's actually an Edgar Cayce guide.

  • I am displeased with the purchase of this book. The book starts off with a mild scolding tone toward people who choose to use their psychic abilities to advance themselves in the world. Why is this bad? Basically a judgment on the author's part (which is more than likely ecclesiastically inspired). Also, the message is made quite clear early on that sacrificing one's self for others is the way to truly be. To my understanding Cayce read the bible regularly and was religious in addition to being psychic. The author of this book, Reed, amalgamates christian dogma with metaphysics which I find hard to accept. Also, in chapter two, Reed discusses the importance of cooperation which I believe is is a very delicate matter. How do we differentiate between cooperating and being manipulated or exploited by others and knowing when to protect ourselves and/or step back? It is as if Reed is forcing his readers to be indoctrinated with strong Christian undertones in order to garner psychic ability. As far as I'm concerned, the bible is a bunch of fictional stories written by men thousands of years ago who had a much different mindset that we do today in the twenty-first century.

Psychic ability is truly neutral and void of any religious indoctrination. I wonder if Reed came from a Jewish or Islamic background would he be touting the Torah or Qur'an? He gives some interesting perspectives on concepts such as the ripple effect, the Perennial Philosophy and what God is but only after citing passages from the bible.

As another reviewer pointed out, lessons in this book are toward the end and they are a bit convoluted and not to the point.

  • This book will interest readers who wish to learn more about Cayce. Chapter-by-chapter it explores Cayce's ideas about different kinds of psychic powers and how to develop them. It also cautions readers about the dangers involved when exploring their psychic selves.

  • thank u for great book and great service. interesting topic for people who are looking into becoming more spiritual... thank u, i will definitely recommend to others.

  • This is a very solid read, expounding on the spiritual philosophies of the "sleeping prophet", Edgar Gayce, who may well have been one of the most gifted psychics of his era. The author, Dr. Henry Reed does a nice job of interlapping science and metaphysical properties to help guide us into fairly easy to understand excersizes to expand our psychic awareness and abilities, based on Cayce's teachings. I really enjoyed the descriptions and hypothesis of the soul and collective consciousness, and the section on hypnosis as an induction to opening ESP and intuitive awareness was quite fascinating. Would definitely recommend this one to all pursuing their psychic gifts.

  • Awesome book that provides insight into Edgar Cayce's readings and relates it to developing theories in science.
