William Bernard Sears (March 28, 1911 – March 25, 1992) was a writer and a popular television and radio personality in various shows culminating in the 1950s with In the Park but left television popularity to promote the Baháʼí Faith in Africa and embarked on a lifelong service to the religion, for some 35 years as Hand of the Cause, the highest institution of the religion he could be appointed to. He wrote many books about the religion, with Thief in the Night and God Loves Laughter being his most.

William Sears brilliantly gives us the DawnBreakers story in a way that eases the narrative for the Western reader. Religious or not, Release the Sun is an interesting historical read. The religious can feel free to take their leaps of faith, should they be so inclined.

Release the Sun. The following is the first in a series of three books which will tell the stories of the central figures of the Bahá'í Faith. This book, Release the Sun, gives the early history of the Bahá'í Faith up through the hour of the martyrdom of its Herald, the Bab. Published by Thriftbooks. com User, 19 years ago. I am re-reading this book and find it even more fascinating than I did the first time. It delves into the history of the beginnings of the Bahai faith from a very human point of view. It is easy to get caught up in the stories of the persons and their personalities that were aware of the coming of a new age and what it would entail for their people. It tells the stories of the men chosen to bring a new faith to mankind; and also tells the stories of the disciples, both men and women, and faithful in the early days of the faith.

  • This is now the third biography I have read on the prophet of the B'hai faith. The main difference I found in this version, as compared with the other two, is that this author focused a bit more on the supernatural/metaphysical claims made by its founder and followers and somewhat less on historical facts. All the same it is a good and interesting read. People need to be more informed about this man, his ideas and potential contributions toward making humanity a better race.
    Intelligent Intervention

  • A wonderful read about the early believers of the Baha'i Faith. I highly recommend to folks to read this first if they plan on reading the full version of the "DawnBreakers". William Sears brilliantly gives us the DawnBreakers story in a way that eases the narrative for the Western reader.

  • Perfect

  • A classic. Loved this book when I was a kid and now I have purchased this for my daughter so we can read together.

  • A well written story describing the Life of the Bab. It is set out so that the story continually amazes the reader that such events are not better known throughout the world.

  • Includes about anything that could have been included in the time of The Bab. Well written.

  • This is a very readable history of the beginnings of one of the most critical developments of our time. I couldn't put it down.

  • Fabulous book! Easy read.
