Veneration of Christina the Astonishing has never been formally approved by the Catholic Church, but there remains a strong devotion to her in her native region of Limburg. Prayers are traditionally said to Christina to seek her intercession for millers, for those suffering from mental illness, and for mental health workers. Christina's story inspired the Nick Cave song "Christina the Astonishing", from the album Henry's Dream.

Thomas of Cantimpré (Latin: Thomas Cantipratensis) (1201 – 15 May 1272) was a Roman Catholic medieval writer . By an allegory on the life in a community of bees, he treats the conduct and duties of superiors and subjects. This work, which inspired many spiritual writers for many centuries, was printed at Deventer (before 1478), at Paris, and three times at Douai (1597, 1605, 1627). Vita Christinae virginis mirabilis dictae.

The Dominican Thomas of Cantimpré (c. 1200-c The Life of Abbot John of Cantimpré has been newly translated by Barbara . 1200-c. 1270) was a key figure in the 'evangelical awakening' of the thirteenth century. A prolific hagiographer, he lauded such diverse subjects as the abbot and apostolic preacher John of Cantimpré; the teenaged ascetic Margaret of Ypres, an urban recluse who died at twenty; Lutgard of Aywières, a Cistercian nun and mystic; and the theatrical, mentally troubled Christina 'the Astonishing' of Sint-Truiden. The Life of Abbot John of Cantimpré has been newly translated by Barbara Newman, who has also supplied a new introduction. The other three Lives are revised reprints from Margot H. King's Peregrina Translations Series.
