The classic New York Times bestselling tale of romance and intrigue in Regency England

Dear Reader:

You met Knight Winthrop, Viscount Castlerosse, in Night Fire. He's the quintessential Regency bachelor, very happy with his life just the way it is. Then Lily shows up on his doorstep claiming she was betrothed to his murdered cousin. With her are his cousin's three children. She has no money, nowhere to go. What's even worse—Ugly Arnold is hard on her heels.

So what's Knight supposed to do now? He takes them in and kisses his former life goodbye.

I hope you'll laugh your socks off at the antics of Laura Beth, Sam, and Theo—and at how the very clever, creative Lord Castlerosse deals with this new species.

How does he deal with Lily? Read on, you'll love it.

  • If you don't care about writing or a slightly convenient character/plot development, this book isn't totally awful. For me, it's hard to enjoy because the writing quality isn't great in my opinion (which frankly distracts me from being engaged and getting pulled into the story, such as it is). I also find some of the twists and turns, in the way the hero and heroine relate to each other, a little unrealistic. Framed another way, the plot could be okay (it's a fairly standard recipe for a romance novel), but it's just difficult to get into this one.

  • I haven't read Night Storm yet (book #3), but considering the reviews, and how much better Night Shadow (this book; book #2) was than the first one, Night Fire (which also got poorer reviews), I'm sure this will turn out to be the best of the three.

Except for the way Knight treats Lily in the middle of the book, I loved his character. He's kind and funny and great with the kids. I thought Coulter's characterization of the children was great also. They really came alive to me. The love scenes are a bit steamy, and their first true coupling wasn't the best, but if you can live with that, you'll love this book.

ETA:I felt I should add this to my review and not only as a comment to another, after re-reading one of the other reviews:
I have to disagree with the comment about 'too much children'. Normally, I'm like that. I don't like to read a lot about kids when I'm reading a romance, but this book was an exception. Not only does the hero's choice to marry the heroine include accepting an instant family, but the children were likable, their characters were well-developed, and the scenes with them were enjoyable--often touching and or funny. All in all, I think the inclusion of the kids enhanced the plot, not detracted from it. The hero's attitude toward them and his treatment of them was certainly one of the main reasons I liked him so much.

  • The characters are great! I enjoyed the twists and turns the plot took. The humor is sly and considerable! I read, page after page with true enjoyment! Highly recommend!!

  • Knight Winthrop's life was enjoying women and living a carefree life. He soon had that changed when Lily and 3 children showed up at his door. She told him she was the widow of his cousin Tristan Winthrop . Laura Beth was her daughter and Sam and Theo were Tristan's. You will find romance, laughter and a mystery . Lily is supposed to know where hidden jewels are which puts her in danger.Knight will be a changed man by the end of the book I have all three in series and like d them all.

  • The second book in this series, Night Shadow, was a great read. I enjoyed it immensely like I do all of Catherine Coulter books. It was packed with romance and action and kept me interested in same all the time

  • Couldn't wait for Knight's story. It was great. He could have fought it more but the story was a fun read. Lily was a good choice for him. Live the children, it was a great touch.

  • I like what I have read of this series, books 1 and 2. There is a continuity tie between them but the character development and storyline are unique to that particular book. I am a Catherine Coulter fan of long standing.

  • I loved the heroine and the hero and, as usual, the wonderful way Catherine Coulter writes. Her characters conversations are so interesting. The plots are always set at a break neck pace and I very rarely figure out the mystery. I also totally enjoy the lovemaking. It is appropriate, does not take over the plot and is very inventive. This was a really interesting story and I'm going to buy the whole Night Fire Trilogy.
