Would you like to tell us about a lower price? . Stranger In Paradise" is an old book, but this is a new printing. It was, I believe, originally a Harlequin Intrigue, but is now part of a new reprint line called Safe Haven with the tag line "Risk everything. for a love that matters".

Stranger In Paradise" is an old book, but this is a new printing. I got this as part of an introductory offer from Harlequin, and they seem to be marketed more as romantic mini-thrillers than as romantic mysteries.

Jean Brashear will knock your socks off!" ~ New York Times bestselling author Stella Cameron. Wow! This romantic thriller is a spellbinder from cover to cover. It is refreshing to read an author who can create a sensual yet aggressive heroine and a manly yet vulnerable hero who can work together to reach such an exciting denouement.

  • This is a Harlequin book. It's great if you like romance stories about bodyguards who cross the line of professionalism and bleep their principle. Hum, should I admit I do?

SPOILER ALERT: Ok, this one has an Oedipal twist: The bodyguard, who is the only one that makes poor wimpy doormat Stacy feel safe, also is the one who bleeped her MOTHER 18 years before. It gets better - Stacy's mom was caught in the act by her husband who threw her out where she then proceeded to have a fatal car crash. Oh - did I mention Stacy was only 5 when this drama played out? So now, 18 years later.... dum dum de dum.

What I liked was the way the dad was portrayed. He understood he made terrible even fatal mistakes with his wife, but he was willing to put aside all animosity in order to protect his daughter from a deranged kidnapper. Then he only wanted her happiness and was willing to swallow his pride in order to obtain it.

The mystery kept the reader guessing and overall the book was entertaining. Keep in mind it's on the level of a Harlequin, a purse book, not say Cindy Gerard or Catherine Mann or Lora Leigh, but worth spending your time on it if the bodyguard angle floats your boat.

  • A Suitable Bodyguard by Kathryn Shay is a good read. Ms Shay has delivered a well written book. Stacey and Cord's story has enough twists and turns to keep you flipping pages. I especially like the characters in A Suitable Bodyguard. Ms Shay has also supplied enough suspense, action and drama to satisfy any reader. I enjoyed A Suitable Bodyguard and look forward to reading more from Kathryn Shay in the future.

I purchased a copy of this book at a library sale.

  • Once you get past the whole reason for Cord knowing the family before you wonder about some other things. Why was Stacey in real danger? What made the "bad" person do what they did? Why did Cord keep saying "she was only human" to excuse something done in the past yet Cord didn't believe it when applied to himself. How could Stacey get past the whole "yuk" thing so quickly? Why would someone who was taught from an early age, repeated the same stuff pretty much daily, change their mind so quickly? I think if those things had either been removed or answered better the book would have been better. I didn't care for the whole "yuk" thing. Seemed to me that one could say Helene was selfish in what she did with an 18 year old and I'm sorry but I still think said 18 year old has to be held accountable too.

  • Shay is an amazingly good writer (writers plural since it's a co-write team) and this early book, despite the obvious and corny romance cliches, is very well written. The sex scenes are steamy and realistic. Some of her other books, such as 'On The Line' are favorites of mine.

  • Cord McKay has quit the New York polive force and come home to raise his little girl in the small town where he was born. He needs a job, but the last thing he wants to do is act as bodyguard to Stacey Webb. Stacey's father is the reason Cord fled town as a teenager. The problem is that Stacey's in real danger. And even though she doesn't remember what happened eighteen years ago, Cord does - and he owes her big time.
