I can say without hesitation that she loves all of these books. As she has said, "The plots may all be somewhat similar and the stories quaint, but I enjoy them immensely and find them endearing. This is one of Betty Neels early stories, very nice, sweet and clean. I could not ask for more. Oh and Holland of course.

"strong" }]} {"strong" } Sister Eliza Proudfoot took a job at the special clinic run by Professor Christian van Duyl

Sister Eliza took a job at the special clinic run by Professor Christian van Duyl who was engaged to the very suitable Estelle van der Daal. Eliza found Estelle a bit of a bore, were they really suited - or was Eliza kidding herself that she might stand a chance with him?
  • Betty created a unique setting for the early development of this book before returning her charcters to England and Holland. Here, the nurse is aware of her feelings at an early point , but thinks her efforts to win the professor's heart are in vain. Subtle clues hint at his realization of who is the right girl for him. It is a relief not to see our nurse run away in denial in this one.

  • Heaven is Gentle is a typical Betty Neels book, but then I like Betty Neels books. The story is a little slow moving and I only read one chapter each night so it takes me at least 9 nights to finish the book. Sometimes I am so tired I don't read a whole chapter.

  • I love all the old fashioned sweet romances by Betty Neels. I read them all many years ago and am now reading them for the 2nd and even 3rd times on my Kindle. She wrote them all on a formula. Usually a romance between a Dutch doctor or professor and an English young lady. There is always some type of conflict that has to be settled before the happily ever after. No violence and no sexual content.

  • Scotland seems to have been one of TGB's favorite settings - it certainly is one of mine! I love the flooded cottage, the Cat rescue, the rescue of Eliza from the snowstorm. I love that Christian keeps kissing Eliza even though he's engaged to Estelle - he just can't help himself.

  • Eliza Proudfoot a nurse in London meets a a Dutch dr,Christian, when asked to help with a study of asthma patients. Neither of them was what the other expected and sparks fly. And, He is engaged to be married. But really she's much more suitable for him

  • I have been buying Betty Neels books for my mother (in her 70's) at her request, as an introduction to using a Kindle. I can say without hesitation that she loves all of these books. As she has said, "The plots may all be somewhat similar and the stories quaint, but I enjoy them immensely and find them endearing." What better recommendation could there be? And the Kindle Paperwhite? She loves the backlight and the ability to make the font larger.

  • This is one of Betty Neels early stories, very nice, sweet and clean. I could not ask for more. Oh and Holland of course

  • I am a Betty Neels fan and enjoy all her books. This is one of my favorites. The female lead, a nurse (as is the case in most of Neels' books) was a strong character and the male lead (yes, a doctor) was strong and caring. It was fun to see them come together in the end.
