Erica James is the number one international bestselling author of twenty-one novels, including the Sunday Times top ten bestsellers Summer at the Lake, The Dandelion Years and Song of the Skylark. Erica won the Romantic Novel of the Year Award for her novel Gardens of Delight, set in beautiful Lake Como, Italy, which has become a second home to her. Her authentic characters are thanks to her fondness for striking up conversation with complete strangers.

First book by Erica James I read. The Holiday is a book I wasn Wanting to leave behind her ex boyfriend and manipulative mother, art teacher Izzy takes up a generous offer of a holiday in Corfu. Little does she know this holiday will change her world. Now I want to read them all. This is one of those from everyone's point of view books. I went into this book thinking it was a romance book when in fact it’s equal parts thriller, drama, travel guide and romance. I loved spending the summer with Izzy and her friends (old and new) as they journey thorough the perils of their pasts and the uncertainty of their futures.

After a thorough inspection, Dr Katerina Tsipa strapped up Izzy’s impressively swollen ankle and declared it badly twisted. She prescribed some tablets to ease the swelling and complete rest. She prescribed some tablets to ease the swelling and complete rest lish was sufficient to get this across without too much difficulty, but Izzy was grateful that Theo was there to help her fill in the necessary forms and translate anything she didn’t understand

The Holiday - good as a holiday read love all the diverse characters and the description of the area in Corfu where the story took place.

The Holiday - good as a holiday read. As I have been to Corfu I could appreciate the descriptions of places and atmosphere. The characters were fairly believable and the story had a few twists and turns love all the diverse characters and the description of the area in Corfu where the story took place.

The Holiday by Erica James (Paperback, 2014). With an insatiable appetite for other people's business, Erica James will readily strike up conversation with strangers in the hope of unearthing a useful gem for her writing. She finds it the best way to write authentic characters for her novels, although her two grown-up sons claim they will never recover from a childhood spent in a perpetual state of embarrassment at their mother's compulsion.

This coming Bank Holiday Monday I have the great honour of actually opening a fête, as well as signing books afterwards. If you're in the area - Hartest, Suffolk - do come along and join in with the fun. But I promise I won't be doing any dancing!

It becomes a decision with consequences that will ensure a holiday no one will forget.
  • On reflection, the characters were well developed and entwined. They all had personalities, issues that the reader could empathise with and they all contributed to the success of this story. I'm looking forward to reading other romances by Erica James.

  • love it

  • Nice light reading a real holiday book.

  • Good read for holidays

  • What I missed and really did look for was if the book on cd was abridged or not. I thought it wasn't but to my disappointment it was. So a waste. Hate abridged books.

  • The Holiday was published in 2008, as it is set in Corfu I thought it would be the ideal book to take with me on holiday this year. It was really interesting to read her descriptions of the beautiful island of Corfu whilst I was actually there, I actually read the chapter where the lead characters visited the village of Paleokastrista on the same day that I visited there myself!

This is typical Erica James, chick-lit done very well, easy to read, great characters (if at times, a little predictable) and an entertaining story line. The lead character Izzy is a teacher and has taken up her friend's invitation to spend the summer with them in their house on Corfu. Izzy is a mixed up character, and needs to make some decisions about her life. Throw in a millionaire, playboy Greek (why do I never met one in Corfu??), a dark and brooding thriller author and the story is set. Sometimes it veers off into the unbelieveable, but on the whole it's a great summer read.

  • Reading The Holiday by Erica James was quite simply wonderful. It is an funny but realistic tail of a developing group of friends away on holiday in Greece. This book had the heart of romance with the characterization of classic literature. It will remain a keeper on my book shelf. In fact I rarely buy the same book for multiple people but I have ordered it for my mother, aunt, best friend, and younger sister.

The story mainly follows five central characters. Getting away from England, Max and Laura are happily married and have talked there single friend Izzy into joining them on vacation on the island of Corfu. When they arrive they introduce her to their handsome and flirtatious neighbor Theo. Later they are joined by Theo's lifelong friend Mark a writer.

The book is full of rich and well-rounded supporting characters (Laura and Max's daughter and her friend, the obnoxious British couple who stalk the famous writer, an elderly gentleman, and so much more.) James description of the island of Corfu made me want to return to Greece and laze in the sun. She expertly executes a superb-paced story with everything from the thrill of first love to the soul wrenching fear of death.

As the story unfolds we discover serious issues and emotional torments. Without giving to much away, what I found incredible about Ms. James' writing was her ability to write a serious compelling story while still keeping it fun and light. Rarely lately have I come across an author who delivers great character development without letting the story suffer.

    Bravo Ms. James.
    Bravo.

  • Enjoyable book with a great plot and a good mix of suspense and romance. Unfortunately, the author has obviously not researched Greek culture too well, and one of the main characters was therefore a little on the unbelievable side. Overall, however, this was a great book.
