Leigh Greenwood's Seven Brides Series captivated me with 'Rose', the first book of the series

Leigh Greenwood's Seven Brides Series captivated me with 'Rose', the first book of the series. I am an avid Western Historical Fiction reader, so the concept of this series intriged me. Boy did Leigh Greenwood deliver! Rose, is hired as a cook/housekeeper to the seven rough, rowdy and untamed Randolph brothers. The two oldest brothers have just returned to their Texas cattle ranch after the end of the Civil War to find that their father has died in the war, their mother died of grief, and their brother Madison has left the four youngest brothers to fend for themselves.

Seven Brothers Who Won The West - And The Women Who Tamed Their Hearts. ROSE is the first delightful book in Leigh Greenwood's Seven Brides for Seven Brothers series. This series tells the stories of the seven sons of William Henry and Aurelia Randolph. William Henry was an abusive, alcoholic womanizer who wasted the family fortune and put a serious blot on one of the most respected names in Virginia history. His friends and family got together and bought him a ranch in Texas just to get him out of Virginia. It's fun, exuberant, entertaining with a special charm and poignancy of its ow. Kathe Robin, Romantic Times.

Leigh Greenwood writes a great epic romance, but also packs quite a series of adventures, so you’re left panting after the plot. First published in June 2005 by Leisure Books (Dorchester Publishing), Rose heads up the book series of seven brides for seven brothers. Apart the name of that famous musical/film/TV series, the Seven Brides series has nothing to do with Not usually one for Westerns, I’d picked up this book during a long weekend break, expecting to be slightly bored.

Accepting a promising job offer, unaware that she is to become a housekeeper to the seven loutish Randolph brothers, penniless Rose Thornton quickly turns their lives upside-down and becomes the target of an enamored George. Original.
  • Very good. George & Rose. Numbered pages, yeah! Captivating tale. Rose. Is rescued from Her job as a waitress where she has been abused. George is looking for a cook/housekeeper for his family of seven brothers. Rose gets the job but finds the conditions at George's filthy home shocking, to be expected with a bunch of brothers living together. The brothers are very antagonistic towards each other but Rose is able to tame them to be at least civil. George & Rose have a very complex relationship. Rose fell in love with George at first sight, but George is heavily burdened by his past abusive relationship with his now deceased father. He is unable to see the love that he wants but cannot admit to. Rose sees that "George and his brothers are lonely souls looking for a place to keep warm"and she would love to help them. "George was reaching out to save himself from the morass of his own doubt from the terrible sense of worthlessness about to drown him." This story plods,, along in some places making it somewhat tedious......this is a long story, but is well worth the read for the great character development alone.

  • I really enjoyed this book and I am glad I finally bought it. I skipped it several times because it made me think it was going to be some imitation remake of my favorite movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. While the beginning of the book did have some very similar scenes ~ like the flipping the table over ~ but the rest of the book stands on its own.
I only gave it 4 stars because if I had one complaint it was that the man vs. self conflict with the hero was very hard for me to rationalize. I just don't see how he saw any of his father in himself. And after the drawn out inner turmoil throughout the entire book, and all of the problems it created for Rose and George it just seemed unnatural how he suddenly got over everything. I really just think there should have been more revelation about the specific things his father did to make them hate him earlier in the book. It would have made the conflict a little more believable.
In the end though I really enjoyed this book and how real everything else seemed. The love story felt natural and like an honest progression not like it all happened overnight. Well worth the time and money. Now I'm off to read Fern.
One last compliant not on this book but the series. Two of the seven books are missing on kindle. Why on Earth would they do that now I'm going to miss Monty and Jeffs story or I'm going to have to "gasp" read an paper book again.

  • Characters are well developed. Can almost imagine meeting them! I really enjoy series books, seems a shame for a story to end. The other six books have very different situations and fully show the other six brothers personalities. There just the right amount of romance & sex without being too graphic.

  • This was such a good story, with a good hero/heroine. But, what I really liked about this story were the secondary characters, who were George's brothers. They each had distinct personalities that enhanced the story so well.

Rose needs a place to be; George needs a housekeeper. Throw in his 5 brothers on a poor ranch which has not seen the grace and influence of a woman and you wind up with sheer chaos. But, Rose is up to the challenge and meets each one head on, until soon each brother and George know she is a force to be reconned with and all end up admiring and respecting her.

It's a good read; I highly recommend it.

  • As I read this book, I was always rooting for Rose...loved her spit! This book was packed with well-developed characters both living & dead. There was just enough sexual tension & not over-written as to be ridiculous. Pioneer life was well-defined & developed with interesting details of everyday life. I liked the idea that family ties are worth preserving for the good of society. This is the only Seven Brides book I have read but will definitely try more.

  • I enjoyed the story of George and Rose. I also liked the family but wish there was a little bit more romance.

  • This was the first of the 7 & the one I most want to read again & again. The brothers and their personalities along with the story itself. How it must have been to come home from war & start again with siblings you didn't know anymore but loved anyway. George was such a wonderful man but with inner turmoil. I must admit however, that I just love everything I have read that this man has written. What a strong person Rose was & how she tried to make them all into a family again really resonated with me.
