The Constant Flame (Leisure Historical Romance). I love how ridiculous it can be at times
The Constant Flame (Leisure Historical Romance). I love how ridiculous it can be at times. The main character, Rosamund, is the BEST damsel in distress I've ever read! And her lover is brilliantly chivalrous and devoted entirely to his lady.
Series: Leisure Historical Romance. It was okay but I got bored with the constant self-doubt each of the characters displayed. It just got old fast. Paperback: 392 pages. I found myself skimming, NOT a good sign. Paperback: 357 pages. Then there's the romance. A pretty predictable twist, since there's constant mentions of Dariq being half English. I liked the latter part of the Dariq and Willow's relationship much better than the development. I simply didn't believe that first moment when they realize they have feelings for the other. She spent most of the time telling him she doesn't want his wicked attentions, but they have sex anyway, lather, rinse, repeat. It just felt like a cop out to me. Like, they couldn't be together unless he was "acceptable" aka seen as a Britishman.

A critically acclaimed best seller in Europe, Highsmith has for too long been underappreciated in the United States. Starting in 2011, Grove Press will begin to reissue nine of Highsmith’s works.
Historical romance (also historical novel) is a broad category of fiction in which the plot takes place in a setting located in the past. Walter Scott helped popularize this genre in the early 19th-century, with works such as Rob Roy and Ivanhoe. Literary fiction historical romances continue to be published, and a notable recent example is Wolf Hall (2009), a multi-award-winning novel by English historical novelist Hilary Mantel
