What does a moth with a foot-long wingspan eat? How far back do butterfly fossils date... 30 million years or 130 million? And, why do Norwegians, Alaskans, and Manitobans see polar fritillary butterflies only every other year?

  • I was looking for an encyclopaedia/compendium of butterflies for a project where accurate research is key. This book was very informative and applicable towards my needs. (I checked this out from my library before purchasing it to be sure). The only thing that one might find a negative is there are no photographs, only illustrations. Many people like either both or photography alone.

  • When I purchase this book, I thought, like the cover, that it would be full of photo's....not one! All are
drawings. The content is fine for a science book, but if you are looking for photo's of butterflies, try
    another book.

  • Great book , very informative. No photos , all illustrations. I'm an illustrator myself so I like the photos rather than drawings. Better color, irridescence....

  • It would be nice to have some real pictures. As the art work is very nice in this book. And enjoy it too!

  • It took a while to get the book, but that was ok. The book was in good shape. Everything was good.

  • A beautifully illustrated book.

  • I purchased this book in order to frame some of the prints. They make great wall art and offer full pages of butterflies making it very easy to frame the print without text. Their are tons of drawn color prints to chose from in this book.

  • If you want to know the anatomy and physiology of butterflies this is the book to get. It tells you EVERYTHING about butterflies and has beautiful, colorful pictures to add to this great book. It has so much detail... a very comprehensive addition to your library. And it looks so nice you'll want it on top of your cocktail table!
