Geological walk guide books. It was developed by BGS from 2007 onwards and was released in 2014

Geological walk guide books. Geoparks in the UK. Holiday geology guides. Ice and our landscape. It was developed by BGS from 2007 onwards and was released in 2014. The London and the Thames Valley model delineates the geological boundaries between 80 artificial, superficial and bedrock units in the Thames Valley and extends from the surface to a maximum depth of several hundred metres. The Quaternary and Palaeogene bedrock geology was modelled using a cross section-based approach. This involved the construction of a geological framework comprising 922 hand-drawn cross sections that considered over 7174 borehole records.

This guide covers the geology of London and the Thames Valley. All maps are from official surveys carried out by BGS geologists and are therefore completely up to date with the most recent information. It s a British Geological Survey publication and therefore contains the most up to date and fully accurate data. The regional guide summarises the main stratal divisions and rock types for the region. In my opinion, there is no better reference if you are looking for geological data for this area. There are very few texts written on the geology of London as it is, and everything there is to know about the geology of London and the Thames Valley is here.

The underpinning geological information has been collated and reported by the British Geological Survey (BGS) as Technical Information Reports (TIRs) following the Final Guidance and implementing Detailed Technical Instructions (DTIs) that were developed for the purpose. The BGS is the UK’s premier provider of objective and authoritative geoscientific data, information and knowledge and provides expert services and impartial advice in all areas of geoscience.

The British Geological Survey (BGS) is a partly publicly funded body which aims to advance geoscientific knowledge of the United Kingdom landmass and its continental shelf by means of systematic surveying.

The BGS headquarters are in Keyworth, Nottinghamshire, England, United Kingdom. Its other centres are located in Edinburgh, Wallingford, Cardiff and London. The current motto of the BGS is: Gateway to the Earth.
