Truly, this is one of the most useful books I own. As testimony to this fact one need only observe that there are more bookmarks protruding from my copy of EDM2 than there are pages (well, almost).

The Encyclopedic Dictionary of Mathematics is a translation of the Japanese Iwanami Sūgaku Jiten (岩波 . 1007/BF03022868, ISSN 0343-6993.

The first and second editions of Iwanami Sugaku Ziten (in Japanese) were published, respectively, in April 1954 and June 1968 in Tokyo. Beginning in the late 1950s, a number of unsuccessful attempts were made to arrange for translating into European languages. Finally an agreement for an English translation was made between the MIT press and the Mathematical Society of Japan on July 1968. The text of this encyclopedic dictionary consists of 436 articles arranged alphabetically, beginning with Abel and ending with Zeta functions.
