  • My rating is really more of a 4.5. The book is really clear. Review is built in in a meaningful and effective way. It's great for self-study (I've been doing self study for a while: one chapter a day). I haven't found that many errors in the answer key, just one or two. The only major criticism is that in section 5.6, division of polynomials, he slips in division of polynomials in 2 variables by binomials in 2 variables into the exercises without having given a single example in the text, as if these were just your everyday variations on division of polynomials in 1 variable by binomials in 1 variable. Not at all intuitive. Why not give some examples? Ditto with division of polynomials in 1 variable by trinomials in 1 variable: they come up in the chapter exercise but he gives no examples of these in the chapter. Odd. Maybe these have been addressed in subsequent editions, don't know. Other than that, I've really learned a lot with this book. Highly recommend it.

  • This book provides excellent step-by-step instructions on how to complete the problems in each section. The practice problems went along with the material covered and the answers in the back provided the necessary steps to understand where a mistake might have occurred. I also used the solution companion book with this one to give me the solutions to more of the problems to ensure complete understanding of the material. Shipping was fast and the book arrived in perfect condition.

  • It's Algebra. It's my third try at Algebra 2. Both previous times I did it online using MyMathLab and failed both. This time I'm taking it in person using this book, and so far it's a big help. Clear descriptions, lots of practice problems.

Still, it's Algebra. I'd rather read Ulysses.

The rental price was GREAT though.

  • I received the textbook more quickly than I had anticipated based on the estimated delivery - two days before the earliest date of arrival. So yay for that! However, I feel that in the future I will be more cautious when purchasing an item that is defined as 'acceptable'. Apparently my definition of 'acceptable' and the definition of the word by this company are two very different things. First, this edition is a 'loose leaf' version, which means that it is several hundred sheets of newsprint, three holed punched and bound together with three metal rings. Or at least should be. This copy is missing the bottom ring and (issue number 2) the strain of the weight of several hundred pieces of paper has caused many of the pages to tear at the middle hole. I'd partially solved this problem by moving the middle ring to the bottom hole which is a temporary fix until I can find another ring large enough to fit it. The third issue is that the first nearly two hundred pages have sustained some water damage. Not to the point that they are stuck together but enough that the pages are warped and badly wrinkled. So all together the book is still USEFUL, which is why I haven't returned it. I start class in less than a week and don't have time to wait for a different copy. For the price, yeah, it was still an ok deal but again, my standards of 'acceptable' are far higher than this book offers.

  • After resuming school nearly 10 years later, I purchased this book as it was required for my algebra class. I can honestly say this book really explained everything well and broke example problems into steps. I still have this book even though my class ended over a year ago. I plan on keeping it for my son when he eventually is able to use it...he's in third grade so it will be a while

  • I am very pleased with this book for the price that I received and I am so thankful I was able to have this book for math class because the book at my school was too expensive for me. And I couldn't see myself purchasing that book thankfully amazon had it for so much lower. Shipping was a breeze. ☺????

  • I'm an online college student with only an ebook to use for my algebra course. I really needed a printed copy to use for references when taking tests and doing homework.
The book I received was in great condition with no major issues. This was an A+ purchase!

  • This book is the bomb. I have been studying from it for a couple of months now preparing for a teacher's examination. I am self-studying only and have found this bood to be very user-friendly. There are a lot of sample problems and as well as practice problems. There are review problems from previous chapters in every section of practice problems. I also like that the order of the equations and problems are not necessarily in increasing difficulty order. An easy question/equation/prblem (whatever) are mixed in with the harder ones. There are also a lot of "real-world" kind of applications. So, if you are wanted a little more of a broader view of Algebra (besides just "how can I pass the test" material) I think this would be a good choice.
