AMS Chelsea Publishing: An Imprint of the American Mathematical Society. Algebraic Numbers and Algebraic Functions. Famous Norwegian mathematician Niels Henrik Abel advised that one should learn from the masters, not from the pupils. The exposition is (as usual with Artin) quite elegant, and the parallel treatment of number fields and function can be illuminating as well as efficient. a master of the subject. It is a true classic in the field. Base Product Code Keyword List: chel/358; CHEL/358; chel; CHEL; chel/358. H; chel-358; CHEL-358; chel-358-h; CHEL-358-H.

When the subject is algebraic numbers and algebraic functions, there is no greater master than Emil Artin. Prerequisites for reading the book are a standard first-year graduate course in algebra (including some Galois theory) and elementary notions of point set topology. In this classic text, originated from the notes of the course given at Princeton University in 1950-1951 and first published in 1967, one has a beauti Famous Norwegian mathematician Niels Henrik Abel advised that one should learn from the masters, not from the pupils. When the subject is algebraic numbers and algebraic functions, there is no greater master than Emil Artin.

Publisher: AMS Chelsea Publishing . Publication Date: 2006. This is an AMS/Chelsea reprint of a book first published in 1967 by Gordon and Breach, based on a series of lectures given at Princeton in 1950–51. The course was a revised version of one offered at New York University in the summer of 1950, the notes for which were published in 1951 by NYU. So what we have here is a record of how Emil Artin presented algebraic number theory and its close cognate, the theory of algebraic function fields, in the early 1950s. Artin was, of course, a master of the subject.
This book was written as a textbook for graduate students or ad-vanced undergraduates, or for the nonexpert who wants to learn about the mathematical theory of knots.
