Another useful and specialised book from CRC Press. For those primarily in experimental high energy physics. The book is even moderately priced.

Another useful and specialised book from CRC Press. There has been a broad canvassing of many terms and topics in this field. From which well written summaries of each are presented. For an experimentalist, apart from describing the experimental terms, there is also an overview of the underlying theories. Theorists in HEP might also find this somewhat useful.

The Handbook of Particle Physics fills that void It covers the experimental and theoretical techniques of particle physics along with terms from the closely related.

The Handbook of Particle Physics fills that void. This unique work contains, in encyclopedic form, terms of interest in particle physics, including its peculiar jargon. It covers the experimental and theoretical techniques of particle physics along with terms from the closely related fields of astrophysics and cosmology. Designed primarily for non-specialists with a basic knowledge of quantum mechanics and relativity, the entries preserve a degree of rigor by providing the relevant technical and mathematical details.

Book · January 2001 with 5 Reads. How we measure 'reads'. Literally thousands of elementary particles have been discovered over the last 50 years, their properties measured, relationships systematized, and existence and behavior explained in a myriad of cleverly constructed theories. As the field has grown so impressively, so has its jargon.

It is sometimes nicknamed the "Rubber Bible" or the "Rubber Book", as CRC originally stood for "Chemical Rubber Company".

Literally thousands of elementary particles have been discovered over the last 50 years, their properties measured, relationships systematized, and existence and behavior explained in a myriad of cleverly constructed theories. As the field has grown so impressively, so has its jargon. Until now, scientists in other fields have had no single resource from which they can quickly reference an idea, acronym, or term and find an accessible definition and explanation. The Handbook of Particle Physics fills that void. It covers the experimental and theoretical techniques of particle physics along with terms from the closely related fields of astrophysics and cosmology. Designed primarily for non-specialists with a basic knowledge of quantum mechanics and relativity, the entries preserve a degree of rigor by providing the relevant technical and mathematical details.Clear and engaging prose, numerous figures, and historical overviews complement the handbook's convenience both as a reference and as an invitation into the fascinating world of particle physics.
  • Excellent all the way around. I would buy from them again. Very satisfied overall.

Theorists in HEP might also find this somewhat useful. Depending on how closely affiliated they and their research are with particle accelerators and reactors.

There is a good coverage of the main research facilities. An emphasis on the US, please note. Sadly, if you read carefully, you'll note that there actually aren't many labs left. It's a mature field, dependent on US government funding.

The book is even moderately priced. While you might not think so, other CRC monographs are well over $100.
