In addition to Physics for Scientists and Engineers, he is also the author of the widely used texts Modern Physics and College Physics. Gene Mosca has taught a variety of students in the calculus based course at Emporia (KS) State, USA for two years, the University of South Dakota, USA for nine years and at Annapolis for twelve years. Paul Tipler began his teaching career at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, USA then moved to Oakland University in Michigan, USA as one of the original members of its physics department, playing a major role in developing the physics curriculum.

  • They skip too many steps. The way they explain things are very unintuitive and lacks clarity. It is like the authors assume you already know how to do this stuff and are just refreshing your memory. I have no idea why my physics professor would choose this horrible book for students learning this stuff for the first time.

  • Got this for college physics, there is so much unnecessary crap and not much focus on the actual concepts, hated reading it and learned more from websites

  • The book is very helpful and has sections in each chapter that lists and reviews the relevant formulas for that chapter. The book was a little more worn down than I expected; but, nonetheless, it was a great price for what I needed! Also, I did not know this when I rented it but this book contains VOLUME 1 AND 2 in it (i rented volume 2 before receiving this book and realizing it had both already in it).

  • Looks like it was done via OCR and there was no editing. It's not usable in its current Kindle format.

  • Book of a good quality. Not to hard to read, if you know physics.

  • The book is okay. It doesn't break down the topics enough, and the end of the chapter problems really require you to make a leap in intuition to be able to solve the harder problems.

  • It is a very big text book, but the best thing is it comes with a disc that has the book on it. It does have some extra examples but like the study guide, really doesn't help much.

Another good thing is that the text is usable over the physics requisite!

  • I purchased this textbook for my college level Calculus based Physics course. I was initially excited and looking forward to diving into this textbook. When I reviewed a few pages, I felt like I was so lost. It is a difficult read that's for sure. I recommend a study guide from Barron's to assist with this textbook!
