  • I became interested in this because of a reference in Max Tegmark's book Our Mathematical Universe and recent news stories about new cosmological discoveries. It is at the level one would expect but can be broadly understood with a 50 year old physics degree. If you never took a graduate quantum mechanics course so that you could do a review it may be impossible to understand.

All other known theories have today been observationally excluded, leaving inflation as our currently best understanding of the early Universe.
    Linde describes in glorious detail all the physics needed for the understanding of inflationary cosmology, such as symmetry breaking (restoration) and phase transitions, and he describes various worked through scenarios, but the description is fairly technical and a strong background in mathematic is necessary. The book is intended for scientists and serious students, and non-scientists will need a good portion of patience to follow all the technical explanations.

  • I downloaded the sample of the book with my kindle. The book is very interesting and reader friendly, but the Kindle version is really unusable and, sometime, it's impossible to understand te relationship between formulas and text. In addition I expected to have some features easy to provide with the electronic format such as hypertext, pops-up and similar not present in the book. Also the text to speech is not available. Kindle is the worst purchase I have never done.
    I am really interested in the book but I will not buy the kindle version for the reasons above
