From author John Hood's introduction to Investor Politics: Over the next few decades, Americans must stop looking to Washington as a source of the money they need to take care of themselves-there is no alternative. They will need instead to look to investment and wealth creation on Wall Street and Main Street as the guarantors of their retirement security, their health security, their job security, and their children's futures. I was pleasntly suprised by this volume from John Hood. I had not read anything by him previously, though I had heard him on the radio and was impressed by the good work of his John Locke Foundation here in N Carolina.

This is the question John Hood addresses in Investor Politics. Again, one testimony to the excellence of Hood’s book is its historical continuity. One might think of Hood’s thesis as trendy. Specifically, Hood points to Populist calls in the early 1890s for a peacetime corporate income tax not to raise revenues, but to redistribute income, and the 1894 congressional enactment of the first personal income tax since the Civil War. Hood explains how, by 1912, all political parties stood for increased government intervention in the economy. One might think of Hood's thesis as trendy.

It focuses on wealth and income inequality in Europe and the United States since the 18th century.

In this important new book, Barry Buzan seeks to provide answers to these pressing questions. He begins by introducing the core concepts of polarity and identity in world politics, which he uses to develop three possible scenarios for the future development of the international political system. Buzan contends that we are not living in a strictly unipolar world, where the great powers are helpless in the face of the US. Instead he argues that the existence of great powers alongside an American superpower plays a crucial role in creating both opportunities and responsibilities which will shape.
