  • It reads like a novel, with enough statistics and details about what it is like to be an agent that it's also very edifying. Some of the things DeLong witnessed and had to deal with (both on the job dangers and sexism from coworkers) is just astounding.

  • I am a fan of Candice Delong but, this is no way a 5-star book (I maybe generously giving 3 stars because I'm a fan).As an avid reader through this book should not have this many 5 star ratings. First, I want to warn the reader that she does not skimp on the gruesome details (maybe she should have).I can not take off any points for this BUT, because of the other reviews, I want to inform you that it is in fact written just and exactly like a law enforcement officer wrote it.It is somehow at the same time: Heavy on the emotional end. I can not tell for sure how much of what she went through is because of sexism or how much was from her own goofiness. There are the things in here that show clearly sexist behavior. It is also clear to me that some of that stuff was also because of the person she is, not just because she is a woman. Things like: admittedly silly hats, over the top clothes she cannot walk right in, and using dirty water to keep warm, makes you wonder.I still have no Idea why she chooses to moonlight: knowing it could make her lose her job! Why not stop pouring tons of money into an old house? I get the roof part but why can't she slow down to a more affordable pace with the rest of it?Stick a camper in the yard? She may have a better explanation but, the book does not give it.The next thing I want to address here is the timeline. It skips back and forth a bit too much.I think it would be a smoother read if it stayed in order. I have put up some of my issues with this book so, I talk about what I did like.It is an interesting look at law enforcement from a female perspective on the inside. It has a good amount of humor in it.The book shows what real casework is like(sometimes it is boring). It is actually a pretty good book and will connect emotionally with the reader. I really like how open she is with her mistakes, struggles, and pitfalls (which she has a lot of). That took some guts to put out there. She was clearly not your model FBI agent and she stuck it out there for everyone to see.I gotta kind of admire that in a weird sort of way.

  • I read this book 3 times. Candice is my hero and the book is awesome! I love Candice Delong and watch her on, "Deadly Women" and "Facing Evil"; the book gave great insight into both her work and home life.

  • I first saw Candice DeLong on Dangerous Women. I really liked the way she talked about the criminals. She seemed so down to earth, then one episode I saw that she had written a book. So I bought it, her book was just as good as her interviews on the TV show. Very informative, insightful and what a smart lady. If I was 30 years younger, after reading her book I mite have tried to be FBI also. Thank you Candice for helping to keep America safe.

  • Well written and VERY INTERESTING! Very matter of fact with insights into her personal life, but mostly stories about events about her work. Good read!

  • I have read a few books in the LE True Crime Biographical genre and this is just as good as any other. The unique aspect of this book is that it is written by a Woman FBI Agent. Usually books of this type are written by Men; it is really fun and interesting to read the female LE point of view. Especially since the author was one of the first female FBI agents to tough it out and make a long career. Her career is full of ups and downs and many exciting tales. There are fascinating observations, advice, opinions and valuable historical data all throughout the book. I think the most valuable part of the book is the last chapter where the author gives personal security advice for folks. Many sound tidbits there and some I had not considered before which is really neat. This would make a nice gift for any True Crime fans but an especially nice gift for Women entering Law Enforcement.

The only down side to the book is the authors opinion of the NRA and private gun ownership. Mainly she discourages both; however in the fullness of time it is possible that the opinion has changed more to the positive on both! Even then, this book was great and I couldn't put it down. I hope to have my friends read this especially my Daughter and Wife for the self-defense and security advice found throughout.

  • Very interesting book by a talented woman

  • Love this book. Great on Audible. She narrates it herself!
