In 1993 he received the Herbert A. Block Award from the ASC for "outstanding service contributions to the American Society of Criminology and to the professional interests of criminology. On a less serious level, Dr. Barlow enjoys driving, golfing, snow skiing, and playing poker.

Hugh D. Barlow is professor emeritus of sociology and criminal justice studies at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and the author of Dead for Good: Martyrdom and the Rise of the Suicide Bomber.
