Kamala Harris wrote this book in 2009 when she was District Attorney of San Francisco, before becoming California's Attorney General. These days, Harris is rumored to be a future Democratic Presidential candidate. This book gives a good overview of her views on criminal law while also providing some autobiographical tidbits. Some Democrats dislike Harris's focus on prosecuting crimes. However, she explains in the book that law enforcement is a non-partisan issue where Republicans and Democrats can find common ground. This book was not a bestseller in 2009, but it might top the charts in 2019 if Harris decides to run for President.

Kamala Harris (D-CA) was questioned for her record on criminal justice issues - a record that’s led some critics to describe her not as a progressive reformer but as a relic of a tough on crime era going back to the 1990s and 2000s. A generation after Democrats embraced tough on crime policies that swelled prison populations, progressive activists are pushing to make the criminal justice system less punitive and racist - and polls show a majority of Democrats support such efforts.

This is how Senator Kamala Harris of California, a likely presidential candidate and a former prosecutor, describes herself. Relying on a technicality again, Ms. Harris argued that Mr. Larsen failed to raise his legal arguments in a timely fashion. But she’s not. Time after time, when progressives urged her to embrace criminal justice reforms as a district attorney and then the state’s attorney general, Ms. Harris opposed them or stayed silent.

In Smart on Crime, career prosecutor Kamala D. Harris spells out the necessary shifts that will increase public safety, reduce costs, and strengthen our communities when our politicians and law enforcement officials learn how to become tough and smart on crime. Kamala Harris basically used stats on crime to expand the scope of who the criminal justice system and law enforcement in particular are allowed (required even) to interfere with the lives of, and it's people who were not caught up in that system already. 1 ответ 33 ретвитов 142 отметки Нравится.

Smart on Crime - Kamala Harris. This book is not a comprehensive look at criminal law or criminal justice

Smart on Crime - Kamala Harris. This book is not a comprehensive look at criminal law or criminal justice. It does not pretend to address a host of legitimate issues that law enforcement, civil libertarians, and victims’ advocates debate, from the complexity of sentencing to issues of due process and civil liberties. Rather, I want to zero in on the key opportunities I see for reform right now.

Kamala Harris waves to a cheering crowd during the San Francisco gay pride parade. Throughout her political rise, Harris has celebrated the success of one of her smart on crime strategies: prosecuting parents whose kids were frequently absent from school. • This book is Really an eye opener

  • After reading this book I can see that Kamala is ready to reform the National Gov't as President or Vice President. She recalls her exciting 'Judge-Judy-esq' courtroom drama to illustrate her personal outlook on politics and philosophy. There are lots of surprises in here (like Obama's book). Read this before the 2020 Presidential campaign and you might be an expert on juicy background of this iconoclastic lawmaker before it gets rehashed by the News Feed. I'm convinced now that Kamala can not only take on Bernie and incumbent Mike Pence but hold her own on the world stage. You simply can't fit intelligent leadership and law commentary into a Tweet.

  • great

  • The story of this book is encouraging information that at least some cities have begun to discover ways to reduce crime in their jurisdictions and lower costs at the same time. I commend this book to all city and county officials including mayors, councils, legal and police. Any citizen interested in reducing crime and costs should appreciate it.

  • Highly recommended

  • perfect.

  • Cool

  • Some great insights on crime and what we can do to combat it. I don't know how we can make these changes nationwide, but we need to change the way we address crime.Well written and engaging. Highly recommended.
