With a world in danger, a ceremony summoned a group of heroes from another world, to help protect it. Yet, one of them happened to die in the process, and was given a slightly longer journey to the summoning.

About Journey. One woman, one family, two or is it three, goals. Between running the farm and a complicated family Murch added classes, papers and tests, and wonderful new people into her life. Through it all she wrote frantically, passionately, holding onto her family and friends as she shared with them this miraculous journey.
  • Well written memoir. The grit and perseverance, going back to school as an older student with a learning disability, is quite inspirational. Liked the use of letters to establish personalities, and Uncle Harold to give voice to her inner dialogue.

  • I loved this book when it first came out and I am thrilled to find it reissued and to be able to get it electronically. This story is timeless, and especially inspiring for women of all ages as we negotiate and contemplate career and family. Amid the frantic juggling act of the middle years, there is so much joy and insight to be had "everywhere," while vibrating just beneath the surface is the ambition we harbor, the dreams we desperately want to realize. It's all here, including the challenges of carrying more responsibility than we would choose if if if... Whether Muriel Murch takes us to Los Angeles or Paris, she offers us a real sense of how precious our lives are, how important our families, and how valuable our own ambitions and fulfillment are for the success of all of it. Highly recommended.

This book is both humane and very human. It is sensitively written, conveying strong emotions but without self-indulgence or pretension, treading the fine line that memoir-writing must tread, its transparent honesty always ensuring that it remains on the right side. It treats of life and death, of love and family and of the struggle for knowledge. It is often poetic but also stunningly down-to-earth --- a true reflection, one feels, both of the realities of the profession of nursing, and of the remarkable character of the writer as the reader gets to know her. Classroom fears and conflicts, family closeness and discord, deep satisfactions and as deep frustrations --- all remain in the memory, touching and thought-provoking. This many-faceted book is about learning, but it has a great deal to teach.
