Most electronic media services such as television and radio provide material intended primarily for the mainstream and usually majority population, says Browne (U. of Minnesota) but more and more industrialized countries are experiencing the growth of services that provide the opportunity for ethnic minority groups--both recently arrived and long-resident--to speak and act on their own behalf. He explores why and how those services were established, how they are structured, what they provide, and how they contribute to participation in society. His examples come from around the industrialized world. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
