At the time of her birth, she was third in the line of succession to the British throne, behind her mother – then Princess Elizabeth – and older brother, Charles.

  • It's really too bad this book is out of print and not often to be found in your local library, as it is an amazingly readable account of the equestrian world in England in the latter half of the 20th century. The pictures, scattered throughout rather than sequestered in groups which can disrupt the reading rhythm, are priceless and surprisingly human given the author is a Royal.
Anne had the benefit of wealth and great coaches, but she brings her very own grit and determination to the extreme sport of eventing as it was during the 1970s, when Thorobreds off the track dominated the sport. Unlike the German warmbloods of today, the retrained racehorse is naturally a more sensitive but potentially more explosive ride, and Anne vividly describes the long paths to wins at Badminton and Burghley which made her the European Champion, a crowning achievement for any rider, and which cannot simply be bought. I found her account inspiring and immensely helpful, as I am presently retraining a racehorse myself. My sister wants to read it, but as soon as she's finished, I'm going to reread it and take notes!

  • This is an excellent book that describes how a child, born to royal parents, can acquire the skill to ride on an international level of competition. I would recommend this to any American girl who takes riding seriously.
