The novel was adapted into a three-part TV miniseries with the same name in 1986, starring Madolyn Smith and Tom Berenger.

After a miraculous pardon Tracy is no longer naive and sets out to destroy the influential and powerful people who put her in jail. Using her beauty and native cunning, by the middle of the book she quickly achieves her objectives. Then she is faced with the rest of her life being tarnished by her prison record, until she makes contact with someone highly recommended by her best friend and mentor from her prison cell.

Tracy then starts her second career as a jewel thief, mixing with the cream of society and only stealing from those that can afford the loss. She soon confronts Jeff Stevens, an irresistible rogue and con artist, who frequently beats her in taking from the same targets. There are shades of "To Catch a Thief" in the plot.

This is classic Sidney Sheldon with fast moving page-turning action and a strong-willed heroine. Sheldon is quoted as saying "I try to construct them so when the reader gets to the end of it, he or she has to read just one more chapter. It's the technique of the old Saturday afternoon serial: leave the guy hanging on the edge of the cliff at the end of the chapter."

The book is over 30 years old but the storyline and writing are not dated. Highly recommended for someone who likes books about strong willed females facing impossible odds.

I absolutely love Sidney Sheldon. His books are always richly drawn, with strong characters, and intriguing plots. And this is no exception. I fell in love with this book when I was 16 (I'm now 32) and have read it over and over again. It's that good.

Tracy is a seemingly ordinary woman working an ordinary bank job and about to marry a somewhat ordinary man. But her comfortable life is turned upside down when her mother commits suicide after being financially ruined by a smooth talking New Orleans Mafia man. Tracy embarks on a half cocked plan to get revenge and ends up taking the fall in an insurance swindle and sentenced to an exorbitant amount of time in a Lousiana prison. Tracy will walk into prison an innocent woman and come out an ingenious cat burglar headed for a life she never even imagined. But first she must deal with the men who conspired to murder her mother and send her to prison...

This is a fantastically fun story. Sweeping from the grounds of the Lousiana penitentiary to the luxury of the Orient Express, it takes the reader on a world wide trip of a lifetime, as Tracy becomes the world's most wanted cat burglar. Along the way she meets several colorful characters. Imagining herself a modern day Robin Hood, she is careful to only swindle those who would swindle themselves. The reader will find herself surprised to be rooting on the bad guys, enjoying a vicarious thrill or two, and smiling at the crazy plots Tracy manages to pull off.

This book is a quick, easy beach read and one that will stay with you long after you turn the final page. It's the kind of book you can put on your bookshelf and come back to years later, eager to live and relive Tracy's exciting adventures. Sidney Sheldon is an incomparable author and this book is no exception.

The novel begins with with Tracy wrongly accused of a crime that sends her to a women's penitentiary. She is abused until she finds another inmate that keeps hope alive. She is released and wants to get even with those that betrayed her. She is very bright and comes up with a plan that gets her a great deal of money. Great opportunities await her in her life of crime If you enjoy reading Sheldons novels, you will like this one.

This absorbing novel by Mr. Shidney Sheldon considered many of his readers as one of his best works; offers a meticulously woven riveting plot, presented in an intriguing style.

It's about gradual metamorphosis of a naive, gullible woman, Tracy Whitney into an ingenious con artist who outwits many a swindlers/criminals initially for vengeance/retribution later to quench her insatiable appetite for defrauding con persons. Her experiences in penitentiary are moving. Overall an exciting read.

Adoranin

Sidney Sheldon once again shows the skills of a master storyteller. About the only thing cliche in this story is that the heroine finds her soul mate. If doesn't happen til the end of the story, though, with enough plot twists for two or three books before that. Even if you don't relate to the main character, you'll keep reading to see how she survives this setting (whatever it is) and what happens next.

MOQ

Sidney Shelton once more provides an incredibly interesting storyline. The novel seems to go on and on with one exciting tale after another. His well-developed characters are compelling and the reader never knows what to expect next. Then the story ends! How completely frustrating! I highly recommend this novel to suspense loving readers!

Excellent book. If you have wondered why people who have paid their dues to society by serving time in a penal institution return to crime, read this book. Tracy Whitney, an innocent person , is convicted of a crime she did not commit. She gets even with all of the people who engineered her demise and fines that she is gifted with this behavior. Don't want to do a spoiler alert. Read this page turner of a book. It will be one of your best reads. This is Sheldon at his best,.

There are times when you have to suspend disbelief to enjoy a good book or a good movie. This is one of those times. To go from a bank teller to a world traveling con artist with no training in a short time doesn’t happen and isn’t believable. But like I said, if you can get past the disbelief, the book has a good story and I’m going to start the 2nd book in the series now.
