Laura Childs has done it again with her Cackleberry Club mystery series. The heroine in this series is a little more human than the heroine in her Teashop mysteries, and I think I like this series best.

Laura Childs has done it again with her Cackleberry Club mystery series. This item: Eggs in Purgatory (A Cackleberry Club Mystery). Customers who bought this item also bought.

I love all three of her series: the Tea Shop Mysteries, The Scrapbooking mysteries and the Cackleberry Club mysteries. What I liked about the book: In this book as well as the previous two books, the reader feels like they are part of a small town community. Even though there is indeed a murder or two, the comradery among the characters was what really stood out for me.

Now, with the addition of a Book Nook and Knitting Nest, the Cackleberry Club had become a kind of crazy quilt magnet for knitters, book lovers, and breakfast lovers Toni called loudly.

Berkley prime crime, new york. Heartfelt thanks to Sam, Tom, Niti, Jennie, Dan, and all the designers, illustrators, writers, and sales folk at Berkley Prime Crime. Now, with the addition of a Book Nook and Knitting Nest, the Cackleberry Club had become a kind of crazy quilt magnet for knitters, book lovers, and breakfast lovers Toni called loudly, as she stepped to the center of the room, then blew an eardrum-busting toot on her silver whistle.

Bedeviled Eggs by Laura Childs is the third book in the Cackleberry Club series. Suzanne, Toni and Petra find themselves embroiled in not one, but two murders. Laura Childs' "Cackleberry Club" mysteries are starting to gain some traction, and I'm enjoying how the plot line continues to develop. After reading the last two "Tea Shop" mysteries, I'm starting to see that series falter, and perhaps that is because she is putting more effort into new series' like the Cackleberry Club Mysteries.

Laura Childs again acquits herself well with this cozy mystery. The Cackleberry Club is becoming good competition for her other series and makes a good, entertaining read

Only 14 left in stock (more on the way). Laura Childs again acquits herself well with this cozy mystery. The Cackleberry Club is becoming good competition for her other series and makes a good, entertaining read. When I want to escape from reality, and the daily news makes that more and more attractive, I pick up a cozy and disappear for a while.

Just what do you think you’re doing?. Doogie said it with such forced nonchalance that she was instantly suspicious. rk that’s been donated?. Because I’m investigating, said Doogie. Well, I doubt you’ll find anything of great importance there, said Suzanne. Those are just entry forms and copies of receipts for the folks who brought in artwork for our Hearts and Crafts Show. Doogie gave her a placid look. And I just recognized a name that’s on my list.

Bedeviled Eggs, page 20. part of Cackleberry Club Mystery Series. That’s not good, said Suzanne, wishing they could find a hunk of wood or piece of metal to club the dog with and render it senseless. Okay, said Toni, my boots just hit mud. I feel it, said Suzanne, as dampness started to seep into her shoes.

  • From the back of the book:

"After losing their husbands, Suzanne, Toni, and Petra bonded, gained a new found independence as well as a wealth of support, inspiration, home baked goods, and their own business. But who have dreamed that when the Cackleberry Club Cafe opened its doors, the three women would be serving justice to criminals . . .

I read this book back in July, but I'm rather behind on some of my reviews. It's just so easy to spend my time reading instead of writing, or cleaning, or cooking or - well you get the idea.

Laura Childs is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors.

I felt like I was visiting with old friends. The characters are well developed and likeable. Granted, there is the one character (isn't there always one?) that is annoying and you wish would just go away, but unlike some series, this character doesn't play a major role. I thought the twist on speed dating with the book club was an interesting idea. I love how these women are living their dreams. Who wouldn't want to have a business that incorporated all of their likes: food, crafts, and books. Hmm, sounds like my dream job.

What I didn't like about the book: Though I loved the emphasis on the lives and relationships of Suzanne, Toni and Petra, at times I felt as though the mystery was shoved too far back on the back burner. Sometimes it felt as though it was an after thought. That's why I only gave it 4 stars, but the characters and the development of their stories, for me at least, more than made up for the lack of emphasis on the mystery.

I can't wait to read these ladies' next adventure. If you like cozy mysteries (with recipes) this is a series you should try.

  • The third book in the Cackleberry Club series takes place just before Halloween. The race for mayor is heating up and the ladies are preparing for several big events, including the historical society Quilt tour, a private catering event for the local celebrity author, and their big Halloween bash. While at a "read" dating event (like speed dating, excep people talk about the books they like to see if they are compatible) at the club, mayoral candidate Chuck Peeble gets into a big argument with Jane, a good friend of Petra, over some antiques he accuses her of stealing. When he is shot outside the back door of the club with a crossbow arrow, Suzanne, Petra, and Toni don their detective hats to help clear Jane's name. The ladies are dragged even further in when they come across another murder. Their friend, the sheriff, is worried about solving the cases and saving his own job. The plot thickens with some unsavory politicians, exotic dancers, and an illegal dog fighting operation, ending in a dramatic finale at the big Halloween bash. As usual, the book contains recipes for some of the dishes described throughout the book.

  • I really enjoyed this series and hope there are more to come. As I am a small-town midwestern widowI can relate to Suzanne even tho I am much older than she. The Cackleberry Club sounds like a delightful place to both eat and hang out. Suzanne and her crew are solving another murder that took place on her property. The murder weapon is a little unusual. The actual hero is also a surprise. This book also includes a bit of politics and volunteerism with the mayor's race and the Quilt Trail. I won't go into great detail so the reader can enjoy it. alalinall a very enjoyable book.

  • This series is an easy read and very entertaining. Will continue through the series and her other series.

  • ANOTHER LAURA CHILDS COZY MYSTERY SERIES, GOOD READING

  • These are good mysteries, although I don't really find the characters well-rounded.

  • I have read all of the Cackleberry Club Mysteries so far. They make light easy reads when I am between other more serious books.

I think that they all end a little too quickly and neatly though.

  • Good book, good plot but I am a Tea Shop Mysteries person. this was a good book but I am not a Cackleberry Club person!!
