A mystery surfaces behind the walls in the new Do-It-Yourself series. Avery Baker and her boyfriend, Derek Ellis, are flipping a seriously stigmatized house rumored to have ghosts. Soon they'll have even bigger problems-and this renovation project might haunt them forever.
  • Avery and Derek are finally working together. They have purchased a house that has had three murders done by the man who owned the house.

It has been said that the house is haunted, but Derek does not think that will be a problem, since the murders happened 19 years ago.

But they did not know that there were other things happening on the street. They did find out when they started working on the house.

They heard screams when they opened the front door and footsteps in the hallways.

Also, the noisy neighbor next door was killed while they were working.

They had the chief of police at the house several times investigating the strange happenings.

You need to read this book to understand what they had to endure to get the house ready to sell.

  • I enjoyed the first book. However, this one bored me to tears! Avery is 31 years old, Derricks the same age. For being adults their very immature. She constantly needs validation from her friend Kate. Does he like me? I guess she just cannot figure it out. I want to be in a relationship, but, I might move back to New York. Avery is annoying and a busy body. I had a hard time likening her.
Derek just as bad! Does Avery really like me? What? Are the both of you two and never been in a relationship before?

I wanted to enjoy this series, I really did. I would of paid full price for the series.
Book two is so Awful, I'm not spending another penny reading about two immature people. Avery and Derek are perfect for each other!!

  • I can't say enough about how much I love this series. The characters are so well written you feel as if you know them personally. The plot is well thought out and keeps you guessing throughout. I've laughed out loud at some of Avery' s exploits, and love how the character continues to develop. It's a fun read, with never a dull moment, and I've easily read an entire book in a day, because I don't want to put it down. If you love cozy mysteries, you will love this series. I recommend reading the entire series. Each book can easily stand on its own, but why deny yourself the enjoyment of reading them all. I'm truly hopeful that this series continues, and am anticipating another book hopefully soon. I have added Jennie Bentley to my favorites for cozy mystery authors. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying these fun mysteries.

  • I thoroughly enjoy this series and loved this book. Spackled and Spooked centers around a creep mystery that keeps you guessing. This book continues to develop the characters in an interesting way. Avery and Derek are now business partners and have a love interest, Melissa and Avery have an ongoing rivalry and we even learn a little bit more about Kate's daughter Shannon and Police Cheif Wayne's son. The quirky neighbors were great fun too!

The mystery had a few suspenseful twists and turns. I was hoping for a little bit more suspense but all in all this was a fun read. I look forward to reading the whole series!

  • I enjoyed the story revealed 'through Avery's eyes! Her freshness and personality became someone who could be identified with easily. The vocabulary and use of clear descriptive dialogues among the characters presented a detailed picture in my mind and unraveled this mystery with all it's twists and turns.
I look forward to Avery's next adventure wherever her life takes her and Derek!

  • I love cozies like Spackled and Spooked, but this one had a better plot than many. There's no way to figure out who the killer is unless you read the whole thing and there are many twists and turns along the way. So far this is the seond book I've read by this author. The first, Cut Throat Business, written under her true name of Bente Galleghar, was also a good read. I liked Spackled and Spooked a little better with the haunted house (explainable) and the many suspects, most falling by the wayside. Characters and events kept me reading.

  • Avery, nicknamed Tink, has decided to stay in Maine. This is book 2 in th series. She and Derek ,her new boyfriend and partner in renovating houses, have bought a ranch. This one was the scene of a multiple murder years ago. It also turns out to be the setting of an unknown murder. Of course ,Avery has to solve it. This one introduces you to new characters and yet keeps the past ones , even the obnoxious ones alive. Read and find out who did it.

  • Jennie Bentley's second novel in the DIY series was just as entertaining as the first. Avery Baker and Derek Ellis decide to buy a house together and flip it. Problem was that four people had died in it and during the renovation process, they thought they heard ghosts, had trouble with the neighbors, and discovered other mysteries. The two did plenty of sleuthing and reporting to small town law enforcement and eventually solved all the problems. I recommend you stuff this cozy in your beachbag!
