Emma Lathen is the pen name of two American businesswomen: economic analyst Mary Jane Latsis (July 12, 1927 – October 29, 1997) and attorney Martha Henissart (born 1929). The pseudonym is constructed from two authors' names: "M" of Mary and "Ma" of Martha, plus "Lat" of Latsis and "Hen" of Henissart. • I don't share the authors' acceptance of corporate ethics and importance, but can't help admiring their plots, their writing, their characterizations.

  • Emma Lathen are two writers who feature fascinating characters in an interesting and amusing mystery series. The main characters are "upper management at the 3rd largest bank in the world", and most of the mysteries/murders have a money motive. These books are funny and thought-provoking. You will love them!!!

  • Have always loved her books - hope to see more on Kindle.

  • John Thatcher gets mixed up in murder and blackmail at a small Boston based commuter no frills airline. Once again the holdings in a trust at the Sloan drag Thatcher unwillingly into the affairs of a company that is not in the best shape. He can't unload the stock in a trust and the company is asking for a big loan to buy new equipment for an unwise extension. Trying to avoid another troublesome Sloan customer in Boston, he ends up at Sparrow Flyways on the day of a disastrous meeting between the CEO and profit sharing employees. When one of the employees ends up murdered, and it looks like someone in management killed him, Thatcher is drawn further into the financial affairs at Sparrow. Lots of red herrings. These John Thatcher and his Sloan staff books are lots of fun.

  • Sparrow Airways is either on the brink of something big or in big trouble. But employees and even management can't seem to agree on which it is. John Putnam Thatcher of the Sloan Guarantee Trust would normally let them figure it out on their own, but not with some the bank's money on the line. And when a labor negotiation ends in murder, he's even more determined to figure out if this investment is going to lead to more trouble.

I always enjoy these books, even if they are out of print. Worth reading and even rereading.

  • I had to struggle to finish it. Boring.
