Armageddon Conspiracy by John Thompson: The author certainly spent a great deal of time putting this story together. The plot is flawless and thrilling. While there were a few slow parts, I was pulled in enough to continue with the read. These dull spots are throughout the entire book but if you skip a couple of paragraphs, you will be right back into the action. Lucas is smart, handsome, and an All-American football player with a bachelors from Yale and an MBA from Stanford.

The driver was right on the woman’s tail, and if he hung a quick pass and got around her, it would leave McTighe’s pickup sticking right out there naked. They were on 202 North, heading into the 287. He prayed the woman’s eyes were too taken up with road signs to notice they’d been on her tail ever since she left Morristown. Originally, they’d been parked down at the end of her street waiting for her and Lucas to go to sleep, intending then to slip in and do their job.

Armageddon Conspiracy book. New author new series

Armageddon Conspiracy book. New author new series. Regular man faced with conspiracy, murder, espionage, and treason. My first book, a thriller called ARMAGEDDON CONSPIRACY, about Wall Street, terrorism and religious fanaticism ended up being a finalist for Best Fiction by the SIBA (The Southern Independent Booksellers), and it won the IPPY Gold Medal for Best Thriller of the Year. The second book in that series is THE HONG KONG DECEPTION.

John Thompson's debut novel, Armageddon Conspiracy, follows Brent Lucas, a sharp, young money manager who must overcome an alliance between Muslim and Christian terrorist groups intent on assassinating the President and bringing down the world as we know it. The book also includes a sneak peek at the second book in the Brent Lucas Thriller series The Hong Kong Deception, to be released in October 2009. Format Hardback 286 pages.

Brent Lucas was hunched over his keyboard, his back to the door. His head jerked slightly at the sound of Biddle’s knock. Yes? he said, not looking around. Biddle cleared his throat. I hate to interrupt such intense concentration. Lucas turned, and his expression changed from annoyance to surprise. He jumped to his feet and came around the desk to shake hands. Mr. Biddle! he exclaimed. I wanted to personally welcome you on board, Biddle said, thinking as he had the other times they’d met how physically imposing Lucas was and how brimming with energy.

Well thought-out action thriller. The armageddon conspiracy. Captivating,Interesting, and inspiring.

Expand/Collapse Synopsis. Well thought-out action thriller. The characters were well defined and believable and the story progressed logically. Brents character must have come staight from Valhala, because it would take god-like strength and endurance to make it through to the end of this adventure. The story holds your interest right to the end, which came a little too quickly. I found myself wanting to see a bit more of a finish, all-in-all a very compelling story.

Fast-rising money manager Brent Lucas has no idea that the head of his new firm is a Christian fanatic or that his multi-million dollar job is a set-up until a billion dollars disappears from a client s account--and until he ends up as the only suspect. Determined to clear himself, he goes to his client s home where he finds only corpses. Narrowly escaping, Lucas runs from both the FBI and his would-be killers. Fueled by memories of his brother s tragic death in the Trade Center and aided by his ex-fiancée, a beautiful cop assigned to the Project Seahawk anti-terrorism taskforce, Lucas begins to unravel a flawlessly planned conspiracy. He discovers his politically unassailable boss has masterminded a plot aimed at bringing about Armageddon with stolen missiles, depleted nuclear fuel and a band of Muslim terrorists intent on killing the President. As the FBI closes in, Lucas launches his own desperate attempt to stop the madness before it is too late.
  • My wife kept urging me to go to sleep, but I couldn't stop reading this gripping book. The all-too-plausible plot combines credibility with pins-and-needles suspense. I loved the characters, and found myself immersed in their struggles. The writing just moves you along in a tight, suspenseful way, with every twist and turn bringing surprise and tension. I can't wait to see the movie, and just wish Bruce Willis were young enough to play Brent Lucas! If you're looking for a book that will grab you, transport you to a world of fiction, but make you think of the consequences if this fiction ever turns into reality, rush to read this great work.

  • Armageddon Conspiracy, a new novel by John Thompson, a new writer delivers a very moving and tightly constructed story. For pure enjoyment this book is spectacular, but there is a deeper side to this story that plays back and forth in the territory of current events. The unbelievable and preposterous world present in this book is a shadow of events in the era when politics, business and religion come together. (I plan to have my high school senior English class read the book.) The characters are very well developed and the plot moves one along at a rapid race. The writing is superb.

  • I was really quite drawn in with this book. While I thought it was initially going to be a bit of harmless pulp to read, the first few chapters quickly changed my mind when I became quite engaged with the characters in the book and the unfolding plot.

The only real criticism that I found with it was that the final acts of the book seemed very rushed and at times confusing. This seemed especially true around the events at the estate leading to the boat chase through the fog. The rapidly shifting character perspectives didn't seem to help alleviate this feeling.

So while I felt let down by the writing of the climax, I have to say that I was still captivated up until that point.

  • Thompson has created an exciting thriller that you won't be able to put down. Curl up with a fine glass of wine in a comfortable chair as he careens you through a riveting story.

  • This book is very predictable. The formatting for Kindle 2 is also terrible. There are numerous pages with sentences and/or words repeated.

I was drawn to Lucas and wished I could help him out when he needed a good loyal friend.

Lucas is a multi-dimensional character whom the author ha brought to life within these pages.
We share in with his losses and a variety of feeling and emotions.

  • While vacationing near Charleston, SC, I picked up Armageddon Conspiracy by John Thompson--primarily because he was doing an author talk on Seabrook Island. All that I can say is what a barn-burner! It's hard to believe that writing is a second career for Thompson--he originally spent 25 years as an investment banker.

Brent Lucas is a financial manager who is hired by Genesis Advisors. He is actually a plant for the U.S. Justice Department which suspects GA of insider trading. Lucas is smart, handsome, and an All-American football player with a bachelors from Yale and an MBA from Stanford. GA's CEO, Prescott Biddle, is an Uber-Christian fanatic who claims to receive his buy-sell messages from God. Most of GA's employees belong to the New Jerusalem Fellowship, "a church dedicated to the most radical and fundamental form of Protestantism with a focus on the approaching End of Days." Biddle seems to be the mastermind of a plot to steal funds from an unsuspecting Saudi and then use the money to purchase weapons from Islamic terrorists. His goal is to force a modern-day Armageddon and to bring about the second coming of Christ. Originally, Lucas is unaware that he was hired to be a part of this horrible plot. Once things start happening, he enlists the help of his former girlfriend, Maggie, who is a cop working with an anti-terrorist task force. Armageddon Conspiracy kept me up late at night--I couldn't wait to find out what happened next!

For a novice, Thompson is an accomplished writer and his plot, his characters, and his dialogue are first rate. But I especially enjoyed his writing style. One of the terrorists, Abu Sayeed is reflecting on Islam and the desert. "Westerners regarded both the land and the religion as inhumanly harsh, yet for Abu Sayeed truth and beauty could be accurately perceived only in utter extremes, either morally or in the physical contrast of life and death." On a negative note, all thrillers have an element of unbelief. In this book, the biggest stretch for me was that fundamental Christians would knowingly murder innocent people and think they were doing God's will.

I was truly surprised with John Thompson and Armageddon Conspiracy. I hope that he has more books in the works.
