  • Reviewing a "Guide" book is hard. I think it's because those who read it have certain areas that they feel strong about and also after a while of reading guides it becomes a blurr. This is the same but what's good is they have details of what to look for and what to do before you even leave for Europe. I learned things like, rentals arranged from stateside cheaper, best agencies to rent from, and many other small things that make this very easy to follow. Only real problem is they give all these hotels, pensions, and they all seem to be booked or probably don't really want to deal with independent tourist as there are so many groups going there and the local hotels are filled up by these groups. Bottom line pick up this book this September, when it's at the libraries and decide where you want to go then book everything by October at the latest. Most quality hotels are like stateside, takes a CC to reserve.

  • I would have preferred a smaller, lighter book to take along with me on my trip to Germany but since all the German guide books I could find covered the entire country of Germany rather than different sections or states, you know its gonna be a good sized book and it was. That said, it certainly points out the highlights of areas you may visit and that is what I wanted and needed since I'd never been to Germany before. Just know before hand that if you plan on hauling it around in your backpack or purse (I carry a backpack purse) it is a real weight contributor.

  • This will be the third Frommer's guide I've used on trips to Europe, and every one of them has been so helpful. I was able to use this book to plan an 8-day vacation to Bavaria in Southern Germany in one night! I love these travel guides; the author's review says that they don't just use fake descriptions, that they actually travel to where they're writing about and my trips to Ireland and Prague were proof of that because the details they provide were spot on. Can't wait to get to Oktoberfest this year, and all the side trips I'll take en route will be that much better with my Frommer's, I'm sure! These books provide so many details about side trips that you never would have even known to take without the book; my Ireland trip was made all the better because of the Frommer's guide and the side trips, hotels, and restaurants they suggested.

  • The information in this Frommer guide to Germany was very helpful and up to date. We purchased the Kindle edition so that we wouldn't have to lug a guidebook and we could use it on our iPad. Unfortunately, the subject index is pages long and is difficult to search through. We finally figured out how to do search for key words and that was faster. Next time I might buy the guide in paperback - heavier to take with you but you can access it without a wifi signal.

  • Bought this 10 years ago for a friend who found it invaluable when he moved to Germany. I bought another just recently as a gift for another friend moving there. She was thrilled and loved that the guide gives you descriptions and a little history on the towns, info on shops, the restaurants and prices too. Landmarks and tourist sites as well as local haunts are in the book. A map is included as an added bonus. I look forward to buying another book for myself if I can take the opportunity to visit my friends.

  • Was very useful to develop our itinerary in preparation for our 2 week trip around Germany and particularly support identification of 'must dos and sees'. We also used the eBook during the trip (vs having a hard copy) to provide overviews of the key sites we visited and was great.
However for reviewing and identifying best accommodation and restaurants we typically used other websites and resources for this purpose.

  • we didn't use this very much on our recent trip to Germany. As we travelled mostly off the beaten track, it didn't relate much to our itinerary. We did get some helpful hints from it though, and will loan it to friends when they get ready to travel.

  • Frommer's Travel Guides are usually well done. This one fits that catagory. Lots of information on different sections of Germany; basic information remained the same from new editions and buying it used really cuts cost.
