We did this off our own backs and made the route ourselves, as Wainwright said that the coast to coast was something for everyone to customise. The hardest part of the route was the Hardknott Pass in The Lake District which is one of the steepest roads in England.

Wainwright recommends that walkers dip their booted feet in the Irish Sea at St Bees and, at the end of the walk, in the North Sea at Robin Hood's Bay.
