  • This kindlebook that is Food Lover’s Guide to Washington D.C.; The Best Restaurants, Markets & Local Culinary Offerings by Beth Kanter is packed with a great deal of information on places to eat around Washington D.C. with the inclusion of some of the following features; food websites to go to such as Washingtonian, eat Washington, and D.C. Foodies, listing of Food Festivals & Events, Maryland State Fair, a Barracks Row Festival that is listed to be a military chef cookoff, DC Veg Fest, other types of festivals listed across Maryland Virginia and DC, Hula Girl Truck, Soupergirl in Washington D.C., and much more. Yes, the info takes time to wade through yet I feel this kindlebook is worth what I paid from my pocket because I am exposed to information and details that would have possibly taken more time andor social experience to figure out from my own logic, intuition, andor research gathering.

  • I wanted to love this book. I have the series for New Orleans and Boston, and they are fabulous. But they are both broken into neighborhoods, and the New Orleans one even has maps showing where the restaurants are within the neighborhoods. The DC does not in any way group the restaurants by neighborhood, or show them on a map. As a result, it is useless to a visitor (and, I suspect, many locals - DC is, after all, a pretty big city). You have no idea which restaurants may be near where you are, or where you are going, they are all just lumped in together.

A guide book with no information about location - what were they thinking?!?!

  • As a lover of eating out, I usually find this sort of book tells me what I already know. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this one - lots of new, interesting suggestions, and places I'd not previously come across - including some round the corner from my house! A nice combination of genuinely useful information, compelling writing style, and attractive square shape. Not one to lug around with you when seeking a restaurant (but you have the Zagat app for that!), and not enough pictures to be a coffee table book, but I'd think it's a good and genuinely useful addition to the home of most DC-dwellers.

  • Food Lover's Guide to Washington is so comprehensive, I even use it as a guide to select which food truck to choose during my lunch hour. It has enough detail to paint a picture, but is succinct enough to cover everything. After I got one for myself, I bought a bunch more to give as gifts to friends who are already DC experts, and to some friends just moving here for grad school. I even gave a copy to friends coming in with their kids for vacation because it covers kid-friendly establishments. Like the best restaurants, there's truly something for everyone.

  • I bought this book as a gift but decided not to give it to the person because the book has no pictures or "eye candy" inside. It is all text. Any travel book knows that it needs to be aesthetically appealing as well. It's fine for my use, but not an impressive gift.
