'Lonely Planet guides are, quite simply, like no other.' - New York Times

'Lonely Planet. It's on everyone's bookshelves; it's in every traveller's hands. It's on mobile phones. It's on the Internet. It's everywhere, and it's telling entire generations of people how to travel the world.' - Fairfax Media (Australia)

  • my husband and i are planning a road trip before we have kids/during pregnancy. I love all the details in here as well as the handy maps. we are getting more excited for this trip. I know it will come in handy during the vacation as well (our others definitely did in europe last year)

  • I am always a fan of Lonely Planet. If you are going West Coast, this book is definitely a good and handy choice. If you are just going to California, you may just buy that version. That one would be more in depth.

  • Little benefit for traveling.

  • This is a book which does not lend itself to the e-book format, as it has no index! That means that finding anything in it becomes a total pain in the neck. I have learned a lesson, though, and that is to check other sources for the presence of an index (as the Amazon product description does not seem to provide this information - please correct me if I'm wrong though).
Once you did manage to find information on the place you were interested in the information was quite useful (despite the use of overblown descriptions at times). Also I got the impression that the book was aimed at 20-something travellers rather than 50-something travellers like me, which was a pity.

  • If you are travailing on the western coast of the USA this is certainly the best choice. There are a lot of interesting and useful information and also covers all the attractions of the West Coast. On the downside if features very few pictures so you have the identify the attractions by yourself.

  • Note: I have the ebook.
    Good details, nicely written.
Some other guides have more graphs and colors: up to you to know what you prefer or to complement this book with another one.

  • No way to find anything in this book other than reading from beginning to end. No index and worthless table of contents.
