Walking with God, John Eldredge. Does God Still Speak? I was talking on the phone yesterday with a young woman who was interviewing me for an article of some sort

Walking with God, John Eldredge. p. cm. Summary: "Stones of becoming intimate and walking with God over the course of a year" -Provided by publisher. ISBN 978-0-7852-0696-5 (hardcover) ISBN 978-1-4002-8005-6 (IE) 1. Christian life. Does God Still Speak? I was talking on the phone yesterday with a young woman who was interviewing me for an article of some sort. She asked what this book was about, and I tried to explain it in this way: "This is a sort of tutorial on how to walk with God. And how to hear his voice. I told her several stories (including the one about the Christmas tree ordeal).

A deeper walk with God is possible. Just when I feel I've read the best Eldredge has to offer, I find another of his books. I have read it at least 4 times in a row and have incorporated it into my daily devotional time. I hunger for a closer walk with Jesus Christ.

John Eldredge (born June 6, 1960 in Los Angeles) is an American author, counselor, and lecturer on Christianity. He is known for his best-selling book Wild at Heart. Eldredge says of himself, "I’m 55. I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. My wife Stasi and I have three sons. My graduate degree is in counseling. Professionally, I’m a writer and a speaker. I don’t have a church that I lead.

Our deepest need is to live in conversation with God. To hear his voice. To follow him intimately. This is the most life-changing habit that we can adopt, because it brings us back to the source of life. Yet most Christians have never been taught how to have a conversation with the Creator.

Walking with God is predicated on the assumption that God has a personalized will for each of us and that it. .As a glimpse into the life of John Eldredge this book may have some appeal. But as a guide to hearing from God, it has little value. What the author teaches is fraught with peril.

He and his wife had both felt that God had told them to cut down a tree on Saturday but they went on Friday instead.

John Eldredge is a bestselling author, a counselor, and a teacher.

  • After reading Wild At Heart, I experienced God talking to me in a way I never had but found I desperately wanted. However, it seemed like the occasional experience, not something designed to happen every day. This book put in perspective that a father wouldn't ignore his children and not want to communicate with them. The Bible is not a book of exceptions.

I found this refreshing and just what I needed. The one star reviews of this book make me want to pray for them because I know many Christians who doubt daily communication with God and feel he only talks through Scripture. In my experience, everything Eldredge discusses here is accurate.

He mentions trouble sleeping and only found relief from sleeplessness after a prayer binding the enemy and consecrating himself and home to God. I mention this because I have had the same problem since I started a closer walk with God. I used his suggested prayer. For the past two nights, I have been able to sleep without interruption. Coincidence? You can decide that for yourself.

There are video segments that accompany the readings, but they usually don't say much more than the book does. I watched them because I enjoyed hearing John talk and discuss what he had written.

A deeper walk with God is possible. Just when I feel I've read the best Eldredge has to offer, I find another of his books. Highly recommended.

  • This book does what it claims. John Eldredge models how he talks to God and how he hears God. I found that by using his approach to talking to God, as opposed to "praying to God" I was able to have a more productive experience of prayer. And yes, I "heard" God speak to me. Not in outright words or details as I have read in the experience of others, but rather in thoughts that come unbidden into my conciousness or phrases that jump out at me from scripture. Often addressing topics that I had not been praying about at all. I found the whole experience of the book and the actions that came out of it inspirational.

  • John Eldridge has written a lot of excellent books, but this one, in all its simplistic and unpretentious honesty, is my favorite. I have read it at least 4 times in a row and have incorporated it into my daily devotional time.

I hunger for a closer walk with Jesus Christ. This book helps me to achieve that.

  • This is for everyone who struggles to hear God. Who feels that God is distant and unavailable. This is such a practical tool to instruct you on how to invite God into your story and talk with Him like Moses did, as a friend. If you aren't walking with God, you are not living as you were designed to. Get this priceless tool and begin the exciting journey of life with the One who made you!

  • I usually dislike books that try to teach significant spiritual principles in "5 easy steps." This was not one of those books. This book took us on a journey in a year of John Eldredge's life, as he prayed about most of his decisions and then waited to see what happened or how he may hear from God. Once if read the book, I took my journal back out and dusted it off. I opened it to a page where I had talked about a decision I had made. In real life, I changed my mind and things really went from bad to worse. It was a neat lesson for me. I believe God had spoken to me to say "no" to something, but I ended up doing it anyway, and it was a huge mistake. Finding that out right after reading John's book really helped me to put the lessons in the book into the context of real life.

  • A very revealing glimpse into the author's journey of learning to hear God speak in everyday life. By looking over his shoulder, the readers are encouraged and taught to implement some of his discoveries into their own lives. The only criticism I have is that he puts too much emphasis on spending valuable prayer time resisting the enemy. Shouldn't we trust in God's protection instead?

  • Depending on where you are in your walk with God. This book will hit home and possibly change your life. My personal journey was hating my job and life and feeling as though God were punishing me. My greatest sin is people idolatry - worshipping and fearing others opinion of me. After reading this book, I realized God was trying to communicate with me versus punish me. I realized my dread and fear at work was because of my sin worrying what people thought of me. God wanted me to realize i needed to turn my attention and dependence on Him and not others so he could heal my broken heart. This book helped me to pray fervently and specifically to rid me of my destructive thought life. I can say without a doubt this book changed my perspective and relationship with God.

  • Strangely enough, I purchased this book by accident. I was searching for book about sociopaths and the reccomendation for this book came up on the same page! I thought it divine providence as this was the thing I had been praying about for weeks prior--having greater intimacy with the Lord.

I rec'd the book and was blown away by the first page--the dedication to his wife, with whom I share a first name! God was surely at work, in ordering my steps (clicks!) toward this work.

There is a real sincerity in this work the author allows us to walk along with him over the course of a year as he hears from God about life, work, family, emotions, relationships and more. He reveals an intimacy with God that should be every believers goal and is, in fact, a right. This book has been a blessing, a milestone in my heart's desire to be nearer to God in every way.
