The preface tells us Turner bequeathed over 19,000 drawing and watercolours to the British nation. This exhibition catalogue contains 305 of them and may experience a resurgence of interest with the recent release of the Mike Leigh film, Turner, which almost completely ignores Turner doing watercolours. In this exhibition catalogue from 1975, only 35 sketches are reproduced in colour, sadly, a representative one or two from various phases of his life: trips to Wales and parts of England, and to France, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy
