The saga of the Perkins family - Mommie and Poppie and an ever-increasing brood of children. • This book is an old favorite. Jesse was commenting, even way back in the early 70's, on the corrupting influences of welfare. But, in Jesse's hands, you get a great story without a stifling sermon. I happened to purchase my book from Books Square, which was fortuitous for me: the book came very promptly, and was in much better condition than I expected. I will be ordering from Books Square again; from one book lover to another-you should too, you will be very happy with the results!!

  • This book was missing from my collection. although it is not in perfect condition, it is as told and I enjoyed reading it. It now has a prominent place on one of my bookshelves. So glad I could get it to add to my others.

  • We bought this book years ago and lent it to someone. Can't remember who?? Just had to have it !

  • A good story.

  • excellent reading

  • As described. Good book.

  • Jesse Stuart the Kentucky author that bring to life the old days when men used mules to plow their ground.
his stories are full of life. some of his tales are witty, some are of a serious note but always entertaining.
Stuart would have to be the best Kentucky author that ever lived. He was born poor and his father could not read of write.
Jesse went on with his life and got and education and taught school and later become a writer of all kind of stories related
to his beloved Homeland of Kentucky.

  • Good read.
