There is surely no body of verse in which strong rhythm has been more effectively and enthusiastically used than in children's poetry, and Milne is in this regard (as in several others) one of the very best. I will take the poem to the class teacher and I am sure the lovelies will enjoy it being read to them.

Ernest H. Shepard was born in 1879 in England Mr. Milne is obviously writing for a very young audience. This makes his style entirely appropriate, plus his ability to tell his story from the standpoint of a child is amazing. Shepard was born in 1879 in England. His pictures of the Pooh characters are based on real toys owned by Christopher Robin Milne. Shepard died in 1976. Mr. But it is his characters that make WINNIE work most of all. They are brilliantly childlike and likable. WINNIE-THE-POOH is a wonderful accomplishment, and deserves all of its accolades. I have no doubt it will still be around in another hundred years.

When We Were Young by A. Milne is composed of endearing 44 poems for children. Some of these poems I thought I heard when I was a young boy in the Pacific island. But at that time, I neither had knowledge of who A. Milne was nor I did have any interest on English poems. What I and my friends were singing were local poems like the very funny Tong-tong-tong paketong-ketong/ Alimango sa dagat. or the funnier Lumakad sya sa tubig, ang paa ay nabasa.

  • This is a collection of A. A. Milne poems. I have always loved "The King's Breakfast" and wish I could find the recording of this poem I used to listen to when I was a kid. I guess you can't go wrong with A. A. Milne, ever. The humor might need some explanation to American youngsters.

  • The King's Breakfast is a delightful compilation of the rather obscure poems of A.A. Milne better known as the author of the Winnie the Pooh stories. I fondly remember the title poem from my childhood b/c of the illustrations and the king pleading for just a little butter for his bread from the queen, the maid, and the cow! It was difficult to find this poem again and I was thrilled to find this book to pass on to my new grandson.
