Book 2 of 2 in HOMESTEADING (2 Book Series). Some good advice about frugal living and working towards the goal of simpler living, complete with recipes for some tasty sounding, economical meals. One thing to be aware of, even though he talks about limiting salt, the recipes that include onion soup mix are not going to be low sodium meals because the mix is very high in salt. Overall the book provides a lot of advice on how to make a budget and stick to it as you work towards your own homesteading goals.

  • A companion book to Patricia Crawford's wonderful Homesteading: A Practical Guide to Living Off the Land, this cookbook is a charming if ordinary collection of recipes one might prepare if you had the resources of a homestead or large garden at your disposal. Somewhat dated (it's been 35 years)... ingredients such as MSG would not be found in a book like this written today, I don't think. For what it is, it's a delightful book and I'm happy to own a copy.

  • I was sad to learn that this book is out of print, as I've used it constantly since it was published in 1976. The easy-to-fix recipes feature fruits and vegetables which are in abundance during spring and summer. Though a lot of them call for beef, pork or chicken, a vegetarian will find many useful dishes here. Quite of few of them have become favorites with my family. In addition, Crawford's chatty writing style makes you feel as if she's a personal friend.
