They've been our closest ally for more than a century  . And what, for that matter, do the British truly think of Americans? Do they see us as the benevolent, can-do, masters of destiny we imagine ourselves to be? Or are we, in their eyes, arrogant and materialistic war mongers out to rule the world? These are the questions that acclaimed illustrator Paul Davis set out to answer as he traveled across the United States and the UK armed with pencil, notebook, and his razor-sharp powers of observation.

The US once belonged to Britain, and many Americans have British ancestors, so when Americans think of. .Americans admire the behavior of the British, although they themselves would never want all their social rules.

The US once belonged to Britain, and many Americans have British ancestors, so when Americans think of Britain, they think of a place that seems very familiar Americans watch British television programmes, especially period dramas ( plays set in a historical period), see James Bond films, and read detective stories by Agatha Christie. As children, they read British books like Winnie-the-Pooh.

The Fader, September 2004. get some laughs from Us & Them. I think this book is hilarious and it so perfectly captures two culture's misinformed, stereotypical and humours views of each other. - Liz Spikol, Philadelphia Weekly, November 3, 2004. This book is great for a laugh on the flight over to London. It's funny! I love the quirky drawings! Paul Davis' variety of line and media are whimsical and well done. He paints and draws on lined paper, the back of receipts, found scraps, etc. The medium used is marker, pen, pencil, and paint.

But although Americans believe they rule the world, few of them know much about anything outside the US. The British think that money matters more than anything else to Americans, and they do not really approve of this and do not like brash ( too public) displays of wealth. They also believe that One US is a dangerous place where you cannot walk in the street pr subways without fear of being attacked. Despite this, many want to go there for their holidays. Young people generally have a much more positive attitude and love everything that comes out of America-Many people see and hear American.

Another reason why a lot of British people dislike Americans and the US is because they think that Americans can be quite obnoxious, this is due to the fact displays of vast ostentatious wealth in British culture is usually seen as negative.

I have always wondered what British English speakers think of American English. I have always gotten the impression that the situation with American English is like that with Castillian Spanish and Mexican Spanish and Iberian and Brazilian Portuguese. They are all offshoots of an original "pure" mother tongue and generally considered inferior. I know that to most Americans, British accents (and every variation that idea entails) sound like the hallmark of a very educated individual.

The British thought of them as rebels and that the Americans would collapse themselves. i think the Indians and british did not the English/Americans is that true i just found out the Indians and Americans did ok bye. Asked in Harry Potter

The British thought of them as rebels and that the Americans would collapse themselves. Asked in History of the United States. Why American think they are Americans? Because the British started calling us Americans. Asked in Harry Potter. Why can't Americans say 'Harry'? If you have a british accent, we Americans think you say "harry" funny also. Asked in Native American History. Why did Patriots think of Native Americans as traitors?

Davis gets to grip with national stereotypes on both sides of the Atlantic. Travelling around, armed with pencil, notebook and razor-sharp powers of observation for visual detail and the spoken word, he has produced a collection of sketches which capture the nuances of appearance, tone of voice and attitude of his subjects.
