Darkness Slipped In book. The simple rhyming text comes to life with Ella Burfoot’s illustrations. Burfoot outlines Daisy’s pink and white spaces and determined, excited face with solid lines, in marked contrast to the abstract figure of Darkness. Darkness comes into Daisy’s pink and white bedroom while she is playing happily, and begins to fill the pages, reaching out to cover her, but Daisy’s got his number. As soon as he’s close enough, she grabs him by the wrist, and suddenly they’re partners in a jazzy dance!

Ella Burfoot book about fear of the Dark.
  • I love this book so much that I bought this a year ago for my kids who are afraid of the dark. A year after, we still read this every night, not only because it eases the fear my kiddos feel when nighttime comes, but we also love the illustrations and crisp & smooth pages of the book. Though most of the images consist of black and pink and white, the whole book itself was colorful and very pleasing to the eyes.

Daisy could teach my sons a thing or two about the dark. I thank her because she isn't afraid of Darkness. She even befriends him and shares a cup of lemonade and together they dance the Twist!

This is a highly entertaining read and I recommend this to parents who have a hard time putting their kids to sleep :)

  • Recommended for children who might be afraid of the dark. This fantastic little book stole my heart. It is written in rhyme and is inventive and enchanting. Daisy shows no fear when Darkness slips in through the window one evening. Darkness is portrayed as friendly and welcoming to her. Darkness is dressed in a wonderful, glossy, black patent-leather style that gradually fills the whole room. He is funky and spunky and they both love to dance the night away and have great fun together. The brilliant accent colours of lemon yellow and hot pink make this book visually striking. If giving this book as a special gift think of including a nightlight with it too. Other books by the author are: Louie and the Monsters, Bear and Me and Betty and the Yeti. It is one of my all time favourite books and I won't lend it to anyone because I love it so and read and hug it often.

  • My child would dread going to bed, it was the shadows on the wall. This book , by personifying night, has come up with a way to involve their imagination with darkness, turning it from a world of fear to a world of wonder.

  • My daughter askes me to read this book at least twice a week out of many other we have. This is on the top of her list for 3 months already

  • This one is right up there with Pinkolicious and Fancy Nancy for my kids. It hasn't really done anything to help my oldest get over her fear of the dark but she still likes the book.
