Cheri Paris Edwards is the author of 3 novels, including "Plenty Good Room.

Despite the Christian Fiction label, I think the book would make a good read for anyone who is not into sexually graphic and/or profanity laced novels. It was a good, clean, wholesome book that could be enjoyed by all ages. Cheri Paris Edwards is the author of 3 novels, including "Plenty Good Room. This book is dedicated to. the memory of my cousin . They had opened the big paneled room known as Le Grand Seize for lunch today. As he entered past bowing waiters, gilt mirrors and potted plants, he saw her at once. the memory of my cousin, Jean Louis Brizard . Joséphine Tessier was the kind of fashionable woman whom head waiters placed in the center of the room-unless the lady murmured that she wished to be discreet. Expensive and elegant, she was wearing a pale gray silk gown, a lace ruff at her throat and a jaunty little hat with a feather in it. He was greeted by a rustle of silk, and an intoxicating scent.

  • I've had this book a few months and finally decided to read it, well, I think it was very well written and had a beautiful storyline. Most of the time, authors write about the same old thing..."boy meets girl, fall in love, cheats on girl and moves in with girl's bestfriend." However, Ms. Edwards chose to capture the life of a beautiful young woman inside and out, who struggled through life not really knowing who she was and came out shining! I was caught up in how she traced her life and found her roots; how she had the heart to care for Sienna and the twist that came with that at the end. I truly recommend this book to others and I look forward to reading her other books in te future.

  • I read the book in two days and i literally screamed "NOOOOOOOOO" when i noticed i was done reading the book ! "Plenty Good Room" was an awesome read and i was actually gratefully to come across such a good, have you on your toes, clean book. I cried, laughed, bite my fingernails, walked back and forth, shouted amen and reflected on the powerful words spoken in the book that would more than often relate to some part of my life. My tradition when i usually read a book is to underline clever or powerful sentences and i was underlining like nobody's business. Even if your not a big reader it is an easy read and in the first page you'll get attached. I hope the author is having a sequel for this book because i have so many unanswered questions about the other characters. All in All I LOVE this book.

  • Enjoyed it - on scene was way too graphic.. Otherwise well done.

  • I like this book first for its depiction of foster parents as caring people struggling to cope with kids who can be difficult. Though the fosters in this book are painted a bit too angelic for real life, it is a nice switch from the stereotypical monsters depicted in much fiction. Overall, this is a sweet story about a hypersensitive social worker, Tamara, dealing with Sienna, a foster child assigned to her department's care. I don't think the author intended for Tamara to seem like a nut, because she is described as patient and always holding her temper, but I found her overreactions to everyday problems humorously bizarre. She is horrified, for example, when Sienna complains rudely about a breakfast of cold cereal and spoiled milk. Wouldn't most kids would complain about that? We're told that Sienna is a troubled teen, but most of her misbehavior is mild - loud music, disrespectful tone of voice, and so forth. Tamara, however, is deeply offended by Sienna's supposedly foul mouth, specifically the use of "dang" and "sister," though it seems that a trained social worker would have heard much worse. I do understand that this is a Christian book and so the writer doesn't want to use offensive language, but the effect created here is that Tamara loses her grip over every minor provocation. Tamara also believes her boss is a racist and she enjoys gossiping with her co-workers about the racist thoughts the boss might be thinking. The boss seems a little demanding but we aren't given specific reasons for this allegation of racism. It seems to be mostly a vibe Tamara catches, so again Tamara appears to be inventing excuses to take offense. A classic Tamara moment involves launching a tirade against her boss for addressing her by her nickname "Tam" because only special people have permission to use it. None of the other characters notice how crazy she's acting. The boss apologizes for using the special name, and her friends applaud her for standing up for herself. Despite her oddities, I like Tamara as a character and I was rooting for her to meet the challenge of taming the wily Sienna and also to complete an investigation of a family history she's conducting for personal reasons. If it's a little unlikely that it's suddenly raining men on our heroine who previously had little social life, well, sometimes those things happen. On the other hand, the various plot threads are wrapped up with some whopper-sized coincidences that are completely unbelievable, and clearly the author knows it, because she attributes them to God's mysterious ways. Still, I still enjoyed this story for dealing with a fresh subject and presenting me with some likable, albeit flawed, characters.

PLENTY GOOD ROOM by Cheri Paris Edwards, is the story of Tamara Briton, a 30-something single African American woman with a successful life working for a child protective agency. She lives alone and is for the most part a loner, with a few close friends. When Sienna Larson comes into her life, a teenager that needs a place to stay, Tamara's life is turned upside down.

Sienna is a teenager that has been in the foster family system all her life. She's known to be trouble, and it isn't any different for Tamara. Tamara does her best to make Sienna feel at home, but the girl does anything she can to get attention, usually something inappropriate. Tamara is not happy that she has to deal with Sienna, who is almost always acting up, but she tries everything including taking Sienna to church. Tamara gets advice from her friend Denise Jackson, a woman who has had success with foster children and soon Tamara notices a change in Sienna.

With her new found faith in God, Tamara finds the strength to care for Sienna, and at the same time she makes friends with Isaiah Perry, one of Sienna's teachers at school. Tamara's life has definitely changed since she had been introduced to Sienna, and not all of it has been bad.

The story of Sienna and Tamara is the main story, but there is a subplot about a young runaway. The two stories run in parallel, and while it can get a little confusing, by the end of the story the reader will understand who this runaway is. Another subplot is Tamara's need to find the true biological parents of her friend Yvette. Tamara states that Yvette is the reason why she is now working to help other children find happiness by finding for them better family environments for these children that are living in unstable homes. All three plots will be tied up at the end, and the reader should be happy with what they learn.

I found the novel intriguing enough to finish it, but I felt that at times the writing could have been tighter. Things felt a bit vague throughout the book, but it is possible this was the author's intention. Regardless, PLENTY GOOD ROOM is well written for being a debut novel. Recommended.
