Recovering Redemption: A Gospel Saturated Perspective on How to Change Description : You can’t. God can. Life never lacks for improvement-in ourselves, in our relationships, in just about everything. Sometimes much worse.

It gives actuall steps and a good footing on how to deepen your dependence on God for strength, wisdom and growing more like Christ. And how to live a life pleasing to our Father. 4 people found this helpful.

I loved how Recovering Redemption: A Gospel-Saturated Perspective on How to Change ended with this: Make much of His name. In everything, we are here to honor and glorify our Creator and Lord. Highly recommend this book. Shelves: theology, audiobooks, christianity.

Recovering Redemption, written with a pastor's bold intensity and a counselor's discerning insight, takes you .

Recovering Redemption, written with a pastor's bold intensity and a counselor's discerning insight, takes you deeply into Scripture to take you deeply inside yourself, discovering that the heart of all our problems is truly the problem of our hearts. But because of what God has done, and because of what God can do, the most confident, contented person you know could actually be you - redeemed through Jesus Christ.

They tell us that the typical places people look to for help in changing their lives are of no help

They tell us that the typical places people look to for help in changing their lives are of no help. People normally look to themselves, to others, to the world, or to religion. But none of these things can be in any help in affecting lasting change in our lives. Only the power of Christ can help change us. In the end, they say we don't really have a drug, alcohol, eating, lust problem. You have a heart problem.

Recovering: Getting back, restoring. Redemption: God's plan of salvation, the gospel. Because we have a tendency to drift from the gospel, we must be reoriented back to the gospel. We must recover a right understanding and application of the gospel

Recovering: Getting back, restoring. We must recover a right understanding and application of the gospel. We must see that the gospel is the fuel for salvation and sanctification and the panacea to fix all things. The heart of the problem is the problem of the heart. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?

What is Recovering Redemption about? We wrote the book because of what we saw in the lives of people here at The Village-which has been confirmed through my experience as I’ve traveled and interacted with others-that there seems to be a disjunction between people’s external struggles and their ability to track them back to heart-level issues.

  • This book is a farely easy read yet has much depth. I not only enjoyed the content but found myself being reminded of how and why I am to LOVE and interact with my brothers and sisters in Christ. I found myself and encouraged all the more in my walk. Chapters 10 on through the very last page was so encouraging and insightful. Chapters 11 and 12, I probably listened to it about three or four times. Points that I walked away with:
"Marks of a mature Christians is to forgive and absorb any offenses thrown our way and to allow any rebuttals or retaliation to fall peaceably to the ground."(paraphrasing)
"In Christ ALL relationships issues are reconcilable"(very much paraphrasing)
There are many more I could paraphrase. But I won't. My husband enjoyed what he heard and would ask, "Who'd you say wrote this? This is good stuff!"
I DO like the structure of the book. I was given the HOWs throughout majority of the book couple with some WHYs. And then, at the VERY end, was given the Overall WHY! We were Saved, Called and Sent because He has and is Redeeming Us.

Once last thing. Paul Michael did an outstanding job narrating this book in the Christian audio version. He captured the essence and personality of Matt Chandler! At times he had me laughing out loud!

  • I like Matt's book, but there is another book that I prefer more..Redemption: Freed by Jesus from the Idols We Worship and the Wounds We Carry, by Mike Wilkerson.

I recommend buying both and reading them. I believe Mike's book is better jail ministry, which is where I'm using it.

  • This book is a soul searching experience. It gives actuall steps and a good footing on how to deepen your dependence on God for strength, wisdom and growing more like Christ. And how to live a life pleasing to our Father.

  • Magnificent book! For anyone interested in using and understanding a Christ-centered recovery program, this is your book. I enthusiastically recommend this one!

  • Very good book. The writing style can be a little 'hip' at times. But overall, a very good book and we are using it in our recovery ministry!

  • Exactly as described; packed well & shipped fast - thanks!

  • Matt has a a gift for communicating & challenging me in my daily Christian journey. God's Word is very clear on how to encounter & react to all challenges in life. In addition, as Christians He gives us the Holy Spirit as our Counselor & Helper. Your challenges with cancer makes your life real regarding worry & fear. Thanks Matt.

  • it compliments the bible study well.
