Yehuda Amichai (Hebrew: יהודה עמיחי;born Ludwig Pfeuffer 3 May 1924 – 22 September 2000) was an Israeli poet. Amichai is considered, both in Israel and internationally, as Israel's greatest modern poet, and one of the leading poets worldwide. He also wrote two novels and several short stories. He was one of the first to write in colloquial Hebrew. He was awarded the 1957 Shlonsky Prize, the 1969 Brenner Prize, 1976 Bialik Prize, and 1982 Israel Prize

Yehuda Amichai Biography - Yehuda Amichai is one of the leading contemporary Hebrew poets. His contribution extends beyond his own literary achieve. Following the war, Amichai attended Hebrew University, studying Biblical texts and Hebrew literature, and then taught in secondary schools. Amichai's first volume of poetry, Achshav Uve-Yamim HaAharim ( Now and in Other Days ) was published in 1955 and aroused serious interest in readers and critics alike.
Amichai has published eleven volumes of poetry in Hebrew, two novels, and a book of short stories.

Yehuda Amichai, Israeli writer who is best known for his poetry . Amichai and his Orthodox Jewish family immigrated to Palestine in 1936. Amichai attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and taught for several years at secondary schools. Amichai’s poetry reflects his total commitment to the state of Israel, and from his first collection, Akhshav u-ve-yamim aḥerim (1955; Now and in Other Days ), he employed biblical images and Jewish history.
