The Three Investigators were thrilled to meet the crown price of Varania when he toured Los Angeles. This was the first book of the famous 3 investigators series that I once discovered in the local library back in the sixties and started a whole chain of reading dedication in this genre!

The Three Investigators were thrilled to meet the crown price of Varania when he toured Los Angeles. They were even more thrilled when he invited them to attend his coronation in Europe.

The Three Investigators were thrilled to meet the crown price of Varania when he toured Los Angeles

The Three Investigators were thrilled to meet the crown price of Varania when he toured Los Angeles. There was just one catch: trouble was brewing in Varania, and the . government needed help in finding out about it. So when The Three Investigators took off for Europe, they weren't just ordinary tourists-they were secret agents!

Three junior detectives travel abroad to solve a mystery involving a silver spider and a political plot that endangers the life of a young prince.
  • This has been our bedtime reading. We're just
starting the series, but he begs for more reading time.
It also works as a vocabulary builder. He enjoys hearing it,
but not reading it just yet. The boys of the story get into predicaments
with their investigating firm, solving "real life" mysteries.
Some of the stories involve thugs with weapons, but I don't feel it's
too much violence - gives the right sense of danger.
This particular story takes them to a small foreign country to assist
a young prince find out who is trying to sabotage him. Very entertaining.

  • With kids not reading as much as the should, a series like The Three Investiators is one way to make them WANT to read more.

I remember reading all of the books in this series several times each, and even making a "Two Investigators" card for me and my best friend in 6th grade.

This book, in particular, encapsulates what made the series great: well-written characters and a plot that is exciting yet plausible, but that still gives some clues for you to figure out.

Along with "The Secret of Terror Castle", this book is one of my two favorites in the series. If you want to sample the series, start with one of these and you'll be HOOKED (and so will your kids).

  • This was the first book of the famous 3 investigators series that I once discovered in the local library back in the sixties and started a whole chain of reading dedication in this genre! Call me sentimental but this story and characters still resonates fondly enough for me to search for it and show to my children to get their take on a different era of writing and good old fashioned mystery and adventures. Oddly enough, when I was old enough to purchase the set, these books became unavailable so it is ironic that they have finally resurfaced for me to share them again with another generation.

  • This book is from the days when one didn't have to invoke the supernatural to interest younger readers not that I have any particular problem with that, times and tastes change. The heroes and heroines of the boys' and girls' series book of an earlier generation only had to solve mundane, down to earth mysteries while overcoming the obstacles of school, parental supervision, and no driver's license. The present book is a fine example of this genre.

The plot is fairly straightforward - find something valuable that is missing before a number of other interested parties do while trying to determine the good guys from the bad guys. This all works quite well with credulity not unduly strained. The clues seem more convoluted than really needed to be the case and dying words accurately recalled weeks after the fact is a mystery convention which readers have long since learned to accept.

Also of interest in this book is the integration of our stalwarts' old nemesis Skinny Norris tightly into the story rather than as the occasional plot device he usually is.

Highly enjoyable and thoroughly recommended. The story does suffer from being dated but if a modern young reader can get past that their time will not have been wasted.

  • Good intrigue.

  • Never a dull moment in reading the "3 Investigators"

  • The 3 investigators books are really amazing books. I read them as a child. Now I'm buying them for my Grand children.

  • My 10 year old loved this book. I will be ordering more of this series.
