Bored - Nothing to Do! book. Peter Spier starts the book off with two boys not knowing what to do and are bored. They then begin to build an airplane out of parts around their home. It requires a lot of materials to build this airplane and to make it work.

Peter Spier (June 6, 1927 – April 27, 2017) was a Dutch-American illustrator and writer who created more than thirty children's books. Spier was born in Amsterdam, North Holland, and grew up in Broek in Waterland, the son of Jo Spier, a popular artist and illustrator, and Tineke van Raalte. Jo Spier was Jewish, and, during the Second World War, Peter and his father were two of nine prisoners of Villa Bouchina and were later imprisoned in Theresienstadt

I was never bored at your age" (Mom)-find a propeller in the barn and set about constructing an incredibly impressive airplane. It flies, and the boys have a grand time aloft; for readers, the fun comes from watching them gather up wheels (from the baby's carriage), hinges (off comes a door in the house), cloth (Ma's bedsheets), motor (from Dad's VW), et. and then putting everything back after their parents get over the shock of their landing. though not as close to home. But this project soon takes off from even the farthest-fetched reality when two brothers-sent outdoors to "Do something!

A mother tells her two boys, Go do something. I was never bored at your age! so the boys cannibalize the house, the grounds, and the family car to build a fullscale vintage fighter plane, and fly it about the neighborhood for a bit.

A mother tells her two boys, Go do something. Peter Spier's books always look as good as candy, but this particular adventure is inspired.

  • A delightful children's book that has two enterprising boys take out their frustrations of boredom on an idea where they build their own airplane because they were bored and had nothing to do. Chucklesome story and great art make it a great book. Once upon a time I was 5 and read this book. 15 years later I was in school to be an aerospace engineer, and this was one of my inspirations, so this book will always be close to my heart.

  • This is a great book. And it seems by the pricing, that it is still in demand.

It is a fun book for a parent to read to the kids. Or the kids to read and re-read (my kids did).

It promotes creativity and creative thinking. Although the children should have asked their parents BEFORE doing what they do.

Anyway, if you can find it at a library, read it there first to make sure you like it. Then search Amazon for sellers.

  • This book was a family favorite read-aloud when my boys were growing up. The preposterous proposition that bored boys can actually build and fly an airplane by using items around their family homestead is one for which you are willing to suspend your disbelief because you so enjoy Peter Spier creative tale. The ending is most delightful. My sons all wanted a copy of the book as adults to read to their children.

  • Very imaginative. Love this book.

  • A withdrawn library book, it shows more wear than I expected. As I doubt a book like this would be published today, I am happy to have
found the book available when I was searching for a six year olds birthday gift . The charm of Spiers books is timeless.

  • One of the best of Peter Spier's books. It arrived without any damage. Met my expectations.

  • This was one of my son's favorite story books thirty years ago. Now he has a son to share it with. I was so happy to find it through Amazon!

  • One of our favorite family reads, we've returned to this again and again. Now that we have grandchildren, we are enjoying it all over again.
