The Silent Seven : from the Shadow's Private Annals (The Shadow, N. 0). Palermo is a worthy foil for the Shadow - he's full of tricks, is a master of disguise and even has his own version of the Shadow's aides (a mute Arab, a master marksman and a femme fatale). Palermo not being particularly evocative. There was so much room for future stories with him - alas, as with most pulp villains, that wasn't meant to be.

The Shadow Magazine ceased publication with the Summer 1949 issue, but Walter B. Gibson wrote three new . The Shadow also battles collectives of criminals, such as the aforementioned Hand and Silent Seven, the Salamanders, and the Hydra. Gibson wrote three new "official" stories between 1963 and 1980. The Silent Seven put him in here to raise havoc with my possessions. No mention was made about the part which Blake had played. Those facts were written only in the private annals of The Shadow!

The Silent Seven put him in here to raise havoc with my possessions. The Shadow came out here to expose him. In the fracas, Dodge was killed! That lets Otto out, said Cardona. The identity of the man who had visited Dodge, and who had later escaped from the overturned speedster, remained a mystery. The battle between the man in the black cloak and the giant Bron was unrecorded by the press. Those facts were written only in the private annals of The Shadow!

Lamont Cranston (one of The Shadow's identities-indeed, the best known - a "wealthy young man about town") first meets Commissioner Weston, setting up the friendship that would be featured in the famous series, and investigates a series of crimes orchestrated by a malevolent mastermind who leaves a bloody mark as his calling card. Gilded death strikes ruthlessly and brings The Shadow to Miami to investigate the suicides that weren't suicides! Read online.

  • A great Shadow story; the Shadow goes up against the secret crime cult led by "The Silent Seven." Book arrived on time in good condition. Thank you!

  • Plenty of action here. A secret society of super villains, and there are not a secret six of them, but a Silent Seven! A pleasant change. A couple of murders, a death trapped drawer, and The Shadow in the frame.

Detective Joe Cardona confronts The Shadow, who convinces him there are other forces at work here. The two men use their own respective methods to uncover the mystery men.

Harry Vincent, human bondage dummy, is captured again, while working for The Shadow.

A bloody confrontation ensues, between the police and the Seven, with The Shadow assisting as he does. There are several casualties.

  • This was one of the better Shadow pulps I've read so far. A good mystery, lots of villainy and action, and a very well written story.

  • Great Read
